  • Eliminate your Powerdyne slippage

98Greenglow and I have been e-mailing each other on this and basically he was the first to eliminated that notoriuos slippage. The bad rap PD has been getting.

Since I only have one pulley I've been really cautions about doing this but now that I have acquired an extra one, I went ahead and did it.

I hope Greenglow doesn't mine, his groove goes on a 360 deg. spiral on the puelly. It has one 1/16" wide goove that is 1/16" deep this would be on the center where the belt would be. He also has six 1/32" or 1/64" groove going on the same direction one side and six on the other. Here's somewhat of a visual example:

    ||||||[]||||||

I did mine alittle differently. I did five 1/16" grooves going on spiral and four 1/8" going side to side or horizontally equally around the pulley. It seems to work great too. I've been using my old gates belt, the very first one I ever used when I got the PD. It is already glazed up on the surface and it makes alot of squeeking noises when I had it before. And even with all that glazed it seems to work good, and no squeeks either.

FYI-I only paid $20 at the machine shop.

I can't tell how boost I'm making because my gauge is out (I just ordered one). But I know the feeling when it is slipping and so far I haven't felt that and the power feels great. I touched my pulley after running 74 miles and it feels alot cooler too. I guess it's safe to say the grooves helps keep it cool by trapping air and the belt is not slippage so not a whole lot of friction to develop heat.

It's been over three weeks now and it's still working great. This weekend I'm installing the Gator belt.

NOTE: Gator belt or Dayco seems to work better than Gates belt. It doesn't contract as much.

I just got a pulley made from ASP Racing, it is 3.12" and they put something like a V groove going horizonally around the pulley.Something like this:
          I--------I

          I--------I

          I--------I

They are spaced about 1 inch going around the pulley with the cut making like a V. I see if I have time this weekend to put it on and I'll post the results. I have been posting because my computer was hit with a virus and someone was trying to use my Aol screen name and account.

That's great!! I can't wait to hear your update on this one. Is the groove pattern something that ASP recommended? Do you have their website?

Greenglow, how are you doing with your car? Is it finally running now?

They did recommend the pattern and just type ASPracing.com or something like that for their website.

It's in the shop right now. Hopefully the reason it wont start is cas it's just a loose wire, kinda funny how it never had a problem starting till I had them change my plugs.... ANYWAYS this is great guys!!!!!!!!! Im so excited to see the results you guys have. My car is NOT a good example of what the powerdyne is capable of. It's a convertable with just about every visual mod that can be done on 10.5 inch wide 18 inch tall rims and HAS NOT been properly tuned. (hopefully it is now after having the correct spark plugs) Im actualy surprised that the car did drop a full second under those conditions, BUT your cars are different.... They have already been running good the way you have them tuned , so you getting a extra 2-3 psi out of the powerdyne will SIGNIFICANTLY improve your numbers. Ive known about the ASP web site for some time... It is HIGHLY reccommended on the powerdyne tech board on www.superchargersonline.com, Good luck and lets keep this going.... I have already emailed 3 v6 powerdyne users about this who dont even come on this board just to let them know that there is hope. Good luck and Ill talk to you guys later.

We'll I finally got the pulley on last Monday. The power felt alot stronger, I was getting less slipage and boost was about 5-6 psi without tighting the belt down super tight. I think I have a lower intake leak or one my a valve covers is leaking because I'm getting oil on 4 out of 6 spark plugs. Also my piston rings I think are bad. Not bad for 120,000 miles(20,000 with the supercharger). I'm rebuilding my engine either this week or the next with the following: Intense 9:5.1 forged pistons, L67 rods(machine shop gave me a hard time about the new L32 rods so I gave up on them, comp cam 206/216 115ls cam, comp cam hyd. roller lifters, Intense lightweight pushrods, Intense main and rod bearings, a set of heads that were milled and I did a little port and polish, and upper/lower intakes that I ported and polished. So I'll post the results in a couple of weeks and after I get the cam and the motor broken in, I'll put the supercharger back on and post some results and maybe get some times at the track. So are you getting 5-6 psi with the new pulley? Have you tried tightening the belt more yet? I'm trying to decide if I should do greenglow's machining or asp racing's.... so far the jury seems to be leaning towards greenglow's.

My car is still in the shop getting the engine rebuilt. The forged pistons from Intense were messed up.The wrist pins were not fitted to the pistons so I had to send the pistons back to Diamond pistons. It has taken them this whole week to get the pistons done so my car has been sitting in the shop until I get the pistons back. Hopefully , I'll get the car back next week and put the blower back on next weekend.

Greenglow, did you ever get pics of your pulley? Or can anyone else getting one shoot a pic or two of them?

Thanks for the R&D work on the PD pulleys guys, seems almost too simple, eh? But I am very excited about these latest results.

Hey, sorry to bring this up and ask again, but does anybody have any pics of their machined pulleys? I'm going to take the supercharger out next week to do the John_D wrap, and while it's off, I'm gonna get my pulley machined.

                              Thanks guys!

Edit: I forgot to mention that I am also going to have the pulley brought down to 3.0" from 3.12. I think this should pick me up a little more boost (like 10-12 psi total). I feel comfortable running this amount with the new water/alc injection I will be installing.
