  • Boost question

Is it possible to see 30psi on a 2002 V6 Camaro? I know the engine is tough (the story about the LS1 guy who tried to blow up his 3800 was funny.. he failed at blowing it up). I have a dream of breaking into the 9's with a V6.
One idea is with a procharger F1A.
    The other is turbo(s).
The only other issue I can see with that much boost is fuel supply. no one makes aftermarket injectors for 2002 V6 Camaro's. Looked at accel and some other company and they don't fit/work properly.

**30psi is assuming that everything is built ie. internals balanced and blueprinted, valvetrain, transmission, seals ect.

What is the max boost someone has run on their v6?

I understand that this sounds to be crazy, but ever since I saw shane's supra... I wanna build a v6 to beat it.

    Re: Boost question

maybe you don't know but the Grandams and GTP's use the same block as our car

    www.intense-racing.com has a GTP ( ithink) running 9.6's

    and
www.zzperformance.com has 2 cars one running 9.9's and one running 9.8's
these cars are all FWD also

ZZP makes an adapter for your injectors to plug in....

And non of those are close to 30 psi.... i think the most is 25 psi last i knew

remember its not PSI that counts its CFM,

      Re: Boost question

Yeah that's true. The fastest LS1 used a Procharger. I don't remember but it didn't look like a lot of boost but the CFM is way up there.

The used to be fastest LT1 used a Vortech and broke into the 8's with only 18psi. CFM was up there too.

        Re: Boost question

Is anyone flowing 320-330cfm? I know some LSx guys are pulling those numbers. Can i pull those numbers with a v6? So technically I can bolt a gtp intake with a ported m90 onto my block? I didn'k know about those 9s.
Has anyone released any editing software for the 3800? I'd like to plug the laptop up to my obdII port and monitor my car(more for learning purposes and tuning)

          Re: Boost question

you cant just "bolt up a l67 intake and m90. its alot more complicated than that and takes some fabricating and $$$$. the m90 wont have clearance under the cowl without modification,l67 heads are different(think injectors here)

youre better off building a turbo kit IMHO.

              Re: Boost question

Just had to make sure i wasn't crazy for thinking they wouldn't work. At a local meet down here i had some people telling me that all 3800 parts are "interchangeable." i thought the bolt pattern was different and thegaskets, and the TB(angled I thought). Hp tuners has software that I can place on my computer to monitor my engine and such?

that parts are inter changeable but the dont fit under our hoods you sould have to cut alot of stuff to make it for a mir 60HP at the crank,

there's 2 turbo kits for sale right now one is 1800 and one is 2300, would would cost at least that it make the M90 work if not more.

yes HP works for you car lond as its 1997+ years

                  Re: Boost question

Who's got a turbo kit for 1800 or 2300? I really appreciate the help.
Viper, what kind of software were you using to monitor your engine. It looked like something I was looking for. I read your tuning webpage, can't thank you enough for making that.

I can run about 9psi of boost on stock internals right? It's going to take me a few months to pull money together for abbott headds and blower cam.
Does anyone make metal gaskets for our cars?

Check these links out. They are a day or so old, but as far as I know they are still for sale. Killer prices too! They will work great for you too since you have an 02. I would have bought one of them, but too much fabricating to my 97. :(

I have no idea about the gaskets.
Good luck with the project, keep us posted on results.

i use HP Tuners with the upgraded calbe and a Wide BAnd O2 to tune.....

9PSi will be fine long as you upgrade your fuel pump and injectors or use a FMU (if you get the tuner just upgrade the injectors)

ether one of those kits above will work great for you :)

Thanks for the info quys. If i were to upgrade the injectors and do the walbro intank pump, would I be fine at 12psi? It seems like I'm going for boost numbers, but Im going for a mild performance out of my car. I'd like to atleast run with a stock trans am. Later on next year I'll be selling my car and getting a z06.
