Well, I thought this was going to happen since it is a used kit. My Powerdyne started squeeking real loud and I thought the bearing where going bad. So I ordered a rebuild kit from SuperchargerRebuilds.com. I removed the SC yesturday and I noticed that when I made the pulley spin the impeller was not turning at the same time. This is my first SC so I am not exactly sure but it looks like my internal gears are fried. Any ideas on how and how much it will be to fix this. The one good thing that will come out of this is that I will have a much stronger SC at the end. Your wisdom is appreciated.

Re: Powerdyne Internals are toast!
the PD does not have internal gears, it has a belt on the inside it probly broke
i think they are like $100
however you could have bearing on there last leg that cuased the belt to go bad alsowww.turbov6camaro.com

Re: Powerdyne Internals are toast!
the chrome ones were a problem on some of them .. there wasn't enough clearance on the inside of the casing and some rubbing insues with the impeller... is this a chrome powerdyne?
<<<edit>>>
just noticed you looked at all of that.... guess that's not the prob...?Last edited by Shirl; 04-21-2006, 12:19 PM.2004 CE Corvette 10.86@132mph

Re: Powerdyne Internals are toast!
That's true Shirl. But from what I hear from PD that have fixed that issue a long time ago.
The best place to take it would be 928Motorsports. They have done thousands of rebuilds already. They even do upgrades that increase the PD efficiency.
http://www.928motorsports.com/services/rebuild.html
They charge $200 for labor. Back then it was only $150. You can go to ebay and buy the bearings and belt for like $100. Be sure to get the 7 ton bearings and Gates Kevlar sprayed belt. I think the ones the PD has is only rated at 4 ton.
If you like. You can be adventurous and do the rebuild yourself. You crack the case open by hitting it with a rubber mallet. The two bearings are easy to remove with the pulley puller or bearing remover. The other two inside where the snail would be are tricky and a little bit more challenging.
I knew of some who took it to a machine shop and had them do the other two bearings for like $50.
The belt takes a bit of muscle to get it back in there. Use cooking oil but be sure to totally wipe it off when done.
If you do open it up, be sure to clean it up because there's a lot of debris in there, esp. from the belt. Check the inside snail housing where the impellers would be. There's probably some gouging around it. Get a dremel or a low grade sand paper and smooth it out again. Be careful not to do too much because you might increase the surface clearance of it.
Check the impellers, make sure everything is nice and even and there are no damages.
Upgraded bearings and kevlar sprayed belt will make your PD even better than before.
Good Luck.

WHen I sent it out to 928 it was only because I wanted to upgrade it. Carl from that company did pry a couple of my bearings to show me how it was starting to get dry. So I guess it just a matter of time.

Re: Powerdyne Internals are toast!
MT is the man. follow his info.
the venting and shimming get expensive.
there are three grades of bearings i think. the stock bearings (avoid), ceramic bearings and then 928 has come up with even better and more expensive bearings, is that right?

Re: Powerdyne Internals are toast!
Your correct Grayman, 928 has the Racing bearings , but you can also just buy the bearings direct from the company also. If you were doing your own rebuild it would be alot cheaper. The shimming would also be easy to do too. It is just shaving down the casing were the impeller is and buying 2 wahers and a spacer to move the up into the housing more, about 1/16" to 2/16". Rebuilding the powerdyne is pretty simple if you have the right tools.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake

Re: Powerdyne Internals are toast!
Just figured whats wrong witht the PD, the large gear is spinning freely around the shaft. So when the pulley spins the gear does not. Any suggestions on how to get the gear to move when the shaft does???2001 JET BLACK V6 CAMARO

-Powerdyne Supercharger, Pacesetter Headers, Transgo Shift Kit, and a whole lot more.

http://groups.msn.com/SPEEDSTYLEandPERFORMANCE
http://www.cardomain.com/id/camarostallion

Re: Powerdyne Internals are toast!
I don't think you get what I am tring to say, so let me give everyone the long version. I opened up the headunit and removed the top two bearings (one big bearing and one small bearing), then I removed the washer on the small gear so I may remove the old belt. I removed the belt, then I removed the big gear the the belt goes on. I cleaned the Headunit and re installed the big gear, wrapped the new gates belt around both the big gear and the small gear, reinstalled the washer, then reinstalled a new big bearing and a new small bearing, reinstalled the cover installed all the bolts, reinstalled the pulley and noticed that when I spin the pulley, the impeller is not spinning. SO.... I removed the headunit cover once more and inspected the internals, I noticed that when the pulley was turning the shaft, the big gear was not turning with it. I do is the big gear secured to the shaft??2001 JET BLACK V6 CAMARO

-Powerdyne Supercharger, Pacesetter Headers, Transgo Shift Kit, and a whole lot more.

http://groups.msn.com/SPEEDSTYLEandPERFORMANCE
http://www.cardomain.com/id/camarostallion

Re: Powerdyne Internals are toast!
I don't think you should of removed the gear from the shaft. The gears have to be heated and pressed on to the shafts. Also the washer or belt retainer you took off the smaller shaft will have to be heated back on also. You may think you have the belt retainer on but when it is spinning at 60,000 rpms, if you didn't get it seated all the down it willcome loose and cause problems.
The correct way and the easiest, is to remove the front cover were the pulley is, remove the large and small bearing, leaving the belt retainer on, flip the supercharger over take the impeller nut off, take the nuts off the side of the impeller housing,(wiggle it back and forth using a screwdriver prying on one end, it should come off pretty easy, remove the old belt( if it hasn't broke, tap gently on the small shaft from the impeller side, the whole shaft assembly will come out, you will see the rear smaller bearing now from the pulley or gear side, if you need to replace that one it is just tapping it out and putting the new one in,
now putting it back together you will put the smaller shaft back through the hole with the belt attached around the large gear and the small gear and gently tap it back down into the rear small bearing, once it is seated you can put the impeller back on and the impeller housing, put the nut back on the impeller housing(I used a little thread lock to make sure it stays tight), now put the cover on the pulley side and reinstall the pulley( I also use a little thread lock on the pulley bolt ).
This will allow you to replace the belt without taking the belt retainer off and it will allow you access to the 2 smaller bearings and the large one on top. Also very important, mark you housing on the pulley side and on the impeller side where they are at( I just put little lines to line up when putting it back together), the impeller side can rotate in any direction so when you put it back together and it is wrong it won't match up right to your discharge tube( I only did that once). Sorry for all the commas, I'm in a hurry. Good luck
