  • PCV bypass method 2: plug size?

Howdy... I pulled my tb today(97) and got a 3/8" plug with hex but it's a bit too big for the inside hole in the tb... would fit the port at the back fine though.

I would like to do the method 2(vented pcv) method because the fines for a visible valve cover breather here are insane... but before I go back to the hardware store a 3rd time, I was wondering if anyone knew the size. I don't really have a great tool for measuring that sorta thing :(

    Thanks

What about just using jb weld? Would I not need a plug then...and thus to tap it?

    thx

        Cool thanks.

Viper, while i have you in this thread... could not having done this mod be in any way affecting my performance under boost? Could my boost pressure loss be related to the crankcase pressure blowing my seals?

I don't expect the car to be completely perfect after doing this... but I wonder if it's part of the problems I was having last fall that we were trying to tune out?

        thx

          well yes and no

not doing this mod wake the pressure under the psiton more so it could effect perfomance in a bad way

the big risk is blowing the crap out of seal that hole the oil back or blwing the dip stick out and oil all over the place = fire hazard

Yeah...i was lucky to never blow the dip stick. HOpefully i've not killed my rear main or any other seals from doing this. Haven't been driving it for long with boost. We'll see.

Thanks...should be up and running again tomorrow.

Well, the jb weld is drying as we speak and i drilled 4 3/16"s holes to vent.

              Crossing fingers :)

Worked like a charm! No more oil or smoke when i lift the hood after boosting. Let the tuning begin :)

                      That sucks....

What I don't understand is all the early guys that did turbo's that didn't do that mod... how come they didn't have any problems? When I was shopping for my kit the prevailing opinion was that it was a good idea but not a must. Seems to me, at least from my experience I needed to do this or i'd just end up doing damage to things...

                      Oh well..all fixed now :)
