Found metal shavins in discharge pipe

[2002 v6 camaro uncharged]

Today when I took the discharge pipe off to inspect the throttle body I found some fine metal shavings on the rubber boot the hooks to the throttle body. There wasn't a ton but enough to concern me. The shavings were stuck right at the connection of the boot and TB, they are just little tiny silver specks right were the boot is clamped down.

There is a slight noise that sounds just like when my bearings went bad last time but last time this noise was extremely loud and my belt would squeal becasue the super charger was getting harder to turn. I initially thought this bearing wine was from my tensioner pulley because it is going bad but now I don't know.
Could these shavings be from when I initially put the rebuilt SC on my car? I have never had the discharge pipe off since I put the SC back on unitl today so I have no idea how long they have been there.
I plan on wipeing the boot clean and seeing if they show up again in a couple of days or is it recommended just to take it off right now.

Your impeller probably hit the casing. Thats the only metal piece that is metal on the impeller housing. I would make sure it is not hitting the casing anymore and is not blades are not bent. If you need to, take the impeller casing off and shave down the impeller hole some.

Do you think those metal shavings did any damage to the enigine?

More than I could count but the were very tiny specs.

Your impeller probably hit the casing. Thats the only metal piece that is metal on the impeller housing. I would make sure it is not hitting the casing anymore and is not blades are not bent. If you need to, take the impeller casing off and shave down the impeller hole some.

Steve is right. Just take out the snail housing and inspect the inside. Chances are there might be gouging inside. Just smooth it out and check your impellers.

I took it off this afternoon at lunch. It only took me 30 minutes to get it off and get the shorter belt on so I could drive it. I am getting quite proficient at taking it off LOL it takes me less time everytime. So I think something must have went wrong on the rebuild for something like this to happen. All the whinning and other noise that I was hearing totally went away after I took the supercharger off.

More than likely, you will need to rebuild your motor soon. Sorry, but this has been my experience from my friends cars. My friend has an 01 Cobra and he put a CAI on it, and there were metal shavings inside of it and didnt clean it out before install, needless to say it scored the cylinder walls...

He now has a fully built motor with cams and procharger that runs 10.2 @ 140granny shifting with 670rwhp on 93 octane...Now he has a C4 Manual Valve Bodied 3 Speed :-) with a solid 35 spline Molser rear end w/ spool.

Well, the blades are slightly bent where it was rubbing. Is there any way to get that repaired or will I have to get a new impeller.

I'd just get a new one... as for the shavings, you might want to try one of those magnets that go on the oil filter. That should attract the particles that are in there.

A new impeller can prove to be very costly. Just take it to a good reputable machine shop. They can even it out for you and balance it.

maybe try fishing around in all the tubing and also the intake plenum (remove TB) with a telescoping magnet. ($5 or so)

change oil. do as shirl suggested and get an oil filter magnet and also place a magnet on the oil pan drain bolt. When you drain the oil fish around in the oil pan (through drain hole) with the telescoping magnet.

the magnet will not help collect any aluminum shavings from the blower shell but it might help collect some of the hardened metal from the impellor.

damn dude, how did this happen? did your bearings go bad again? what all did you do when you rebuilt the powerdyne? who rebuilt it? what bearings did you use?
I am asking because SSM5 had a big problem with his first 'pro' rebuild. curious.

I used the Ceramic bearings and had my father do it at his work. He is the maintinance supervisor there and knows what he is doing. But people make mistakes or I had a set of bad bearings. It is partially my falut for not taking it off as soon as I started hearing the familiar bearing noise. I thought it was just my tensioner pulley since grease was coing out of it but thats not all it was.

It is about $200 for a new impeller, so I would see what the cost of fixing the one you have and if it is over $100 bucks , might as well get a new one. Look up superchargerrebuilds.com and send them a email , their the company I got my new input shaft and sprocket from.
