what is normal fuel pressure? im running around 40-45.

should i have a whine? i didnt think so, but i have one. alternator? idk. maybe because of the tension of the belt. too tight/too loose?

its slipping somewhere, you can hear it when i start my car for like a split second and then if i ever give it a sudden rev or tap of the gas. what could be slipping? could it possibly be the belt im using? or its tension again.

    Re: just installed powerdyne, questions

    Dude!
I havent been around much lately. congrats on getting the car back together.
congrats on the powerdyne as well.

some cars seem to have 40 to 45 while others run a bit higher. it might be the age of the pump or even the year of the fuel regulator (don't quote me on the last...just a guess)

what matters most is that the fmu is working under boost. you should see dramatic increase of 6/1 on the fp gage.

as for the whine... most likely the belt is not tight enough. at first it seems like it is tight but you really have to work at it to make it tight. tight enough is when you can barely twist the belt sidways. (do a twist test on the belt between the TB and the power steering)

I am taking it for granted that you are using the john_d wrap.

as for whine...if you have a stock or mild muffler you will hear the SC whine. it is subtle...not loud...but noticeable if you know what to listen for. a loud exhaust system can cover up the SC whine. if the SC ever gets REAL LOUD then it could be bearings in the SC or bearings on a pulley (tensioner)

with the stock 105" belt that comes with the powerdyne i was able to do the john_d wrap. after about 10,000 miles i had to get a new belt becuase it had stretched so much that the rksport tensioner had no more adjustment left in it.
(it was a real ***** putting on a 103" gatorback this last time. i had to loosen (pretty much remove) the tensioner pulley from the bracket and crank the motor with a socket on the harmonic ballancer to slowly 'roll' the belt on the puleys. it took some doing and then a just tightened the tensioner pulley part way and cranked the motor some more....did this a couple of time. they belt finaly got all the way on all the pulleys.)

      Yeah like Grayman said.

Since the belt is new it will stretch. So run it a couple more times and then tighten. Be sure to use only Dayco or Gator belts. Gates belt tend to contract when hot and then stretch out too much. Because of that, there's a lot of premature wear and tear. In the past I've experience much slippage with this particular brand.

I use the 103.5 dayco belt. When brand new I have to muscle it in but it stretches and I have to tighten it again.

39-40-41 at idle is about normal. A couple of years ago when my pump was new I was at 44. But when I changed my FPR it went down to 39-40-41. I asked Brother's Perf. if this was normal. They said yes.

        Re: just installed powerdyne, questions

Grayman and Thor, we installed the JohnD wrap, but reused the belt that came with his used kit, and it is about shot. I just wanted to get it up and running to test it, and we didn't tighten the belt as much as it will eventually need to be. His blower whistle is slightly louder than mine, but I still told him I don't think there is anything wrong. The belt squeal during quick throttle blips I believe is the belt slipping, and a combination of the glazed old belt on the new blower pulley. We haven't run the car into boost yet since we finished install late late last nite, but we will assure that the FMU is working. I think his fuel pressure and boost gauge are hooked up and functioning just fine. Overall, it looks like a strong install.

ill just leave the setup the way it is now. (im going out of town for a week). then whenever i get my new intake system rigged up, ill also throw a new belt on there and make sure its tight.

If the blower haven't been used for like let's say a month, it will produce a loud whistling whine. Which is normal by the way. It will eventually go down. As long as it doesn't sound like a jet then it's ok.

            Good luck.

i wouldnt worry about it man..i just always kept a second belt at home just in case..but i never had any problems..they say to let it have a 1/2" of play..but i say screw that..i had to pound the crap out of that pulley holder thingy with a hammer..i had more like a 1/4" of play..but it was the only way to stop the slipping..and it was also the only way i could hit 6 psi

A grooved pulley at some point will help too. :)

I was just noticing this is a used kit, so maybe that's already been done...
But then I saw about you having a new pulley, so maybe it's not.
                            I'm so confused.

Anyway, congrats on getting the kit!!
