  • supercharger vs. nitrous

i have been using nitrous on my truck for about 2 years now and have just bought a 3.8L 97 camaro with a/t. i like nitrous but not the refill part and i was wondering how yall like the RKsport supercharger.

    got a couple questions-

    Nitrous or supercharger? why?

how much boost can i run on stock motor?

If i go with bigger injectors and fuel pump can anyone tune for that? dont wanna do hp tuners

What kinda WHP are you guys making on the 6psi version?

how much can the 3.8L take as far the bottom end goes?

The stickies answer all of these questions in way more detail. Check them out, but here is a quick run down.

    1. I would do nitrous cuz its cheaper and easy to install (just me personally), but the Powerdyne is an awesome setup

    2. There are some people who run 9 psi on stock internals, but its a good idea to do meth injection if you go that high

    3. You wont need a tune for a better fuel pump but you will for bigger injectors. There is a shop here in Omaha that can tune my car for my bigger injectors, but it will cost a lot of $$. I dont know where you live to tell you if any shops in your area can do a tune on a 3.8 or not. I am with you, I dont want HP Tuners either.

    4. I have heard of guys getting another 80 rwhp on average from 6 psi (depends on your other supporting mods)

    5. Bottom ends on these cars are pretty dam strong. Many people on this board run a 100 shot of nitrous and stock bottom end.

Try a search for more detailed info. Welcome aboard!! :D

BTW, what kind of truck do you run with n20? Track times?

      Re: supercharger vs. nitrous

i have a 4.3L blazer and run a 100shot with exhaust, intake, pullies, plan on doing full exhaust, tuning, full ignition, and a stall over the summer so i would hope these can take that as well.

on a 75shot, exhaust, e-fans, intake, pullies i ran a 9.37 @ 74mph in the 1/8th. but now i have 25more hp via nitrous and full ignition + headers/y-pipe. doing a stall and tuning- i ran with my friends LT1 which has a 3000stall trq converter, full exhaust, and intake- from a 10 roll we ran and had a fender on my bye 85 and the put a length on me bye 100 and i shut down. his car run 8.8 to 8.9 in the 1/8th so im right there with him

ya i think an NX wet kit will do the trick- a 100shot with msd 6plus ignition and slp mid length headers and edelbrock cat-back o yeah and intake. with that set-up what kinda #'s could i put down? 280 or 290whp? then a stall, and gears + tuning and i should be rocking out

If you get nitrous, make dam sure you get NGK TR6 plugs gapped at .035 and retard the timing.

About the rwhp numbers, I have no idea. I am as curious as you are on that. I am getting my car dynoed and tuned within the next few weeks with similar mods and I'll let ya know.

BTW, Sounds like a kick a$$ truck you got!

yeah thanks for the info, im a noob to 3.8L's but not nitrous. getting the msd6plus to retard ignition @ WOT- i run stock timing on the 4.3L for the 100shot and its fine, some guys actually run advanced timing on 4.3L with nitrous and have for a long time. thanks yeah i like it. i got a couple vids of it @ the track taking down some 350z's, wrx's and couple street vids against audi s4 and bmw 330i. more comming soon

I am not a huge fan of nitrous cause you dont have it right then and there. I like turbos and Superchargers because you press the gas everytime and you know you got the boost. So I would suggest put the supercharger on it and if you want more then spray it..why not!? Just make sure the motor is rebuilt
