  • turbo question

i have a '95 3.4 L and i was considering installing a turbocharger from a diesel truck that makes about 18-20 lbs of boost, im asking if any with experience suggests that i would need new mods b4 i do this such as, injectors, head gaskets, any imputy is greatly appreciated

    Re: turbo question

First of all the turbo you are installing from the truck may be too big for your 3.4. Please list all current mods.

You can run a turbo safely without upgrades at around 5lbs of boost, 18-20 is extremely risky even with upgraded internals as the L36 was not an engine made to handle boost. A general "safe" level is usually from 7-10 psi. upgrades would be recomended, I did heads, cam, rods, rollers, 65# Injectors, double timing, MLS gaskets. There are a lot of mods to consider before setting a boost goal. So first off bring your boost goal way down. Find someone to make you pipes for the turbo, FFF? and give trim sizes of the turbo if possible.

      Re: turbo question

The only reply i'm going to make to this is that it should be in the "Forced Induction" section.

Actually if you swap the internals its not a L36 anymore its more like a GTP engine which is made for boost.

          you mean an L67.
that turbo might be too big and will take a little while to sp00l.

rite now all i have done is wires, cold air, and exhaust, but before i plan on turboing it i was going do heads, intake plenum, fuel rails, and injectors. i figured the turbo was going to generate too much boost, and i knew lag would be a problem its ok though i got it for free:) . thanks for the input

              Re: turbo question

Post the model numbers/brand of the turbo.

It may not spool at all depending on type/size.

i would think an HY or HE holset would flow nice and spool really quick, we use them on our 2.3 fords and love em

that thing is too big for your car....IF it even does boost....its gonna be for like 1000 RPMS so you wont enjoy it...just get a t3/t4 hyrid or something...will spool up wicked fast and you will see gooood gains

yeah, I looked at a LOT of turbos, and normally I'm inclined to agree (I don't trust a lot of what I see for sale)..but these are priced identical to market value apparently http://www.turbochargers.com/store/i...dd6db0e9be24d8

.68 you say? how well would the .63 work?

I wonder what the hell that means. *shrugs* I asked for a .68 a/r exhaust housing for the T62-1.
