what kind of rings are they? they must've came with the diamond forged pistons, so they are probably good rings.
thats how my valves look... burned
time for new pistons dude :( and less gas mileage :( but more power ;)

I was using chrome moly piston rings and never had any problem, but then again I never ran quite as much boost as you did.
There is no such thing as chrome moly. There is either:
Plasma-sprayed moly over a ductile-iron base OR
chrome faced.
Thats what 2 guys from Total Seal told me. I believe them.
I have LOTS of writeups on rings if anyone wants to read them.

100% correct 2 totaly different things one or other never both
Damn, hopefully my motor doesn't look like that when I pull the heads off. I found metals shavings that looks just like the ones in your cylinder last time I changed my oil.
How was your oil pressure upon destruction?
Not that it was the cause in your case, but in a different type of motor I have scene that exact problem when an oil squirter got plugged. Of course we don't have squirters but you get the idea.
