Could you attach a turbo to the headers via 1 or 2 exhaust clamps, or would they not form a strong enough seal?

I doubt it would explode...you would just make very small amounts of boost due to your catastrophic exhaust leak. :) Everything on a turbo setup is subject to high pressures.
