  • got a dyno, UPDATE!!

went to get a dyno today and found out i am running EXTREMELY LEAN. (off the chart). 120% injector duty cycle and WAY too much timing. they said i need bigger injectors, a fuel pump, and a good tune, then come back for another dyno.

so, i know ill get a 255 walbro pump, but what about injectors? what size? brand?they suggested 30lbs or 36lbs (http://store.summitracing.com/partde...&autoview=sku). will those work? or where is a good place to buy the injectors? maybe these? http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku or these? http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

the guy from TSP said to run 39 or 42 lbs injectors... ideas?

also, the place that i got the dyno done: www.ryansperformance.com only tune for v8 cars, but they said they would tune my car but for $400-450! Thats nuts, but they were suprised that TSP would retune my car for a powerdyne for free and they said to double check to make sure they would do that. anyways... they said to not drive my car over 3,000 RPMs and practically dont drive it if possible. (and yes i know... no fuel under boost equals boom)

my car is a big money pit.

You should have known you'd need to upgrade your fuel system to run the super. :poke:

This is a good time for you to get HPTuner. You'll save more money in the long run.

If you are getting bigger injectors, you don't need FMU. HPTuner will tune your car for bigger injectors. Viper or Andrew or SSM5411 will better answer your question. Also you need to retard your timing. FI requires you to retard or else you will experience serious knocking which can cause engine damage.

Don't consider this to be negative. This is good. I knew the dyno would tell you a lot. Remember what I said that your not going to yeild good result. Atleast now you know what to do. Once your car is tune expect 260-270rwhp with 6psi.

i just got off the phone with jason from TSP. they said they can fix the timing issue, and i will be buying my injectors and pump from them as well. i didnt talk to him about not using the FMU but i will bring it up when i call him later this afternoon. he will also be able to do all the tuning still, so that takes care of that problem.

That sounds like a cool deal. Yeah you won't need the FMU once you go with bigger injectors.

Just a side question...... If an intercooler was installed and 92+ octane was used, that would enable stock timing to be safely run, correct? The only reason to retard the timing is because the PD system does not have an intercooler?

well at least you know where you stand now and what was causing all the problems. try not driving your car if you can or just remove the supercharger unit until you can get the tune taken care of. running that lean could cause major issues. good luck with this i cant wait to see what you run at the track

rob: probably, but im not running stock timing. my car has been tuned for previous mods before by TSP and the timing was raised and now it needs to be brought down a TON.

99camaro-3.8: yea, im not taking it over 3k rpms

Ah OK, just wondering in case I ever try this myself. I thought I had read before that stock timing was OK with an intercooler and good gas but wanted to be sure.

Hopefully you can get things worked out, it'll be great to see numbers you can put down. Be careful!

yea im trying to drive my car as little as possible, and when i do, i drive really slow and dont accelerate hard. im still waiting for TSP to call me back so i still dont have any injectors/pump. :(

what was your a/f ratio? when did it start going lean? like others said, now you know what the problem is. try looking around for someone with hptuner's for your car ( same year/tranny ) they would be able to retard your timeing which would be great untill you got bigger injectors. 36# or #39 should be fine 42# is too much unless you plan on swapping belts and going for bigger numbers.. 120% cyle duty it NUTS. i think like 90% is too much and you should go bigger.

i know your getting injectors, but if you could get a hold of a hptuner that will work on your car it'll help untill you get the bigger injectors. good luck with everything, we will see track times this season right? yea, thats what i thought.
