  • Turbo Kit Here! Need All The Help I Can Get!

Alright guys, here's the deal. I've been shopping around for a turbo kit now for quite some time. 6 months later, I've found my kit and purchased it. (Details Below). Anyways, I will be installing the kit on an Y87 99 A4 Firebird. The car is basically stock besides a catback exhaust. The kit arrived at my house about a week and a half ago. I am out of town until Saturday, and I will begin installing the kit once I get home. I know GoldenPhoenix knows a lot about boosting as well as Tiago and Viper. Basically, I would really, really appreciate any suggestions regarding the install as well as other helpful information. Such as additional parts that are recommended and anything else. I’m planning on purchasing a torque converter, but not sure which one yet. Some quirks about the kit are that it has around 15,000 miles on it. I would really like to recoat the headers and pipes with a new ceramic coating so I'm looking for somewhere to do that. Also, the turbo itself needs to either be replaced or rebuilt. Judging by the $650 price tag that it would cost to buy a new one, I'm leaning towards a rebuild. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I should get it rebuilt? Besides that everything else is fine. Other info that may be helpful is that I live near Charlotte, NC. Any help that I could get would be awesome! I am also planning on getting the car tuned immediately after installation. So if anyone has HPtuners and is in the area, please let me know. If not, I am going to contact PCMforless and see what they can do for me. I'd really like to thank everyone in advance for reading my rant and helping me in anyway possible. As you can tell, I am very eager to get everything up and running before college starts. And I'm looking forward to getting the project underway. Thanks Again!

    Kit includes:

*T3/T4 Garrett Hybrid Turbo with .50 compressor .82 exhaust with a stage 3 turbine
    *Precision Intercooler
*Custom fabricated 3 piece forward sweeping turbo exhaust manifolds (Ceramic Coated)
*Custom intake from the turbo with K & N filter
*All IC pipes which are powder coated grey
    *Vortech 6:1 FMU
    *Bosch BOV
*Both oil lines (feed is SS braided and return is rubber)
*Fitting to "T" off your oil sending unit for oil feed
    *All silicone connectors and clamps
    *Autometer Boost gauge
    *2 foot downpipe (Ceramic Coated)

I'd also like to thank Shane for building the kit and Kevin for selling it to me.

For future upgrades look to fuel injectors and a new fuel pump so you can ditch the FMU and handle a bit more boost.

Yes, have the FMU taken off. The purpose of the FMU is to hold on to the fuel on the return line. This is to ensure that your car is not deprive of fuel when you go into positive pressure or boost. This is more ideal for cars that are NA with a FI or NO2 and with very little tuning involve.

With the large Fuel Injectors and pump the fuel is readily there but requires tuning to make it right for your application.

Sorry didn't mean to hijack the trend there. Good job on the turbo though.

Hey man. I've been a little busy with school lately, but as far as questions go, feel free to get me on AIM anytime. I'll give you my cell number for specifics. I know its kind of hard to install a kit blind, so I'll walk you through whatever needs be.

If you want to run the kit NOW, everything will work. You will just be blowing smoke out of the downpipe. You won't need to upgrade your injectors and what not until you plan on running higher boost. Keep me updated on AIM.

Re: Turbo Kit Here! Need All The Help I Can Get!

ya im definately planning on both of those. But I have another question. Since Shanes car had an angled throttle body, he used a 90 degree coupling to connect it to the IC Pipe. My car has a straight throttle body and I was wondering what would be the best way to connect the IC Pipe to the throttle body. I think I'm either going with a hump connector or a transtion hose from atpturbo.com. Also, what size would I need? Thanks.

***Update*** I sent the headers and downpipe off to Jet-Hot to get the MC-15 coating put on. I also sent the turbocharger off to get rebuilt. Everything should be back within a week. The only thing I have left to do is find and buy the right coupler. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Turbo Kit Here! Need All The Help I Can Get!

Believe it or not, I ran into yet another problem. According to turbochargers.com, the turbo can not be rebuilt because the parts are not american made and most likely were made in china? However, I have my doubts of whether or not this guy is giving me bull****. They received the turbo the 8th of August and it took them until the 17th of August to contact me to tell me they could not rebuild it. Along with the turbo, I included a sheet of paper with my contact info and wrote a note to call me about pricing once it was inspected. Of course this was after I emailed them twice before they finally answered me. I guess they were planning on breakin the news to me whenever the time was right...maybe? Who knows. Also, the two emails that I finally received back were worded terribly, confusing, and the second one was completly random. I asked the guy a few questions and he didnt answer a single one of them. Instead, he told me how he knew the turbo was not made by Garrett and was actually made by a company in China. I guess he forgot that he told me the same thing in the first email. No worries though, he also said "i would look to replace it more than anything!" Im guessing that means that he would love to replace it. Anyways, to sum everything up, my experience with turobochargers.com was horrible. I'm sure they probably won't ship the turbo back to me until sometime next year, so I'm completely prepared for that. Besides all that, the only thing holding me back from installing the kit is now I need to find another turbo. I have about 400-500 dollars to spend on the turbo and I'd like a T70 or another T3/T4. If any one has one for sale, please let me know. Also, I still need to figure out what coupler to buy to connect the IC Pipe to the TB. But I'm still confident that one day...soon (hopefully) I will join the few, the proud, the turboed sixers? Ahhh...who knows. Until then, I can always dream. Sigh...
