  • what kind of boost...

ive been told by a LOT of people that boosting a camaro 3.8 is impossible... and that the compression is too high for boost and ill start blowin stuff up... so i was wondering what kind of boost you guys are pushing. so how many lbs of boost are you pushing? and what kind of engine mods do you have to support the boost?

also i was wondering if anyone has ever put a GTP supercharger (eaton M90) onto a camaro or firebird with the 3.8! also been told that cant be done, but im positive it can work. plenty of effort involved, but i do believe its possible.

um about the GTP eaten M90....theres a whole thread dedicated to it about the swap and how it can/cant work...just try a search

currently my camaro is boosted and people are still telling me that my car isnt meant for it. You can run up to about 10 psi on a safe level depending on your supporting mods (injectors,Fuel pump, spark plugs)...anything really over 10 is kinda stressing the stock internals. 7 psi is plenty safe enough and will give you nice #'s.

Our compression ratio is only 9.4:1 compare to other cars out there like the Nissan Z which runs 11:1 ours is pretty low. And people run 7lbs of boost on those Z's.

With the kind of compression ratio we have it almost makes it ideal for high boost. Our cars is capable of 9-10psi with no change to the computer, injectors and so forth. Just an FMU and cold plugs. Anything beyond 10 would require injectors and computer tuning.

I think there was once a turbo guy here that ran 15psi with stock internals and had no problem.

so puttin 6 lbs of boost would not hurt anything?

ive been working on a boost set up and im still trying to figure out deatails on what i do and dont need... but if i really can put 6 lbs in without a problem then that will greatly reduce my expenses.

  should i go for it?

                Re: what kind of boost...

im building mine up for my turbo, but not even as indepth as some like viper up there.

I have preped for the turbo by doing, ported intakes, ported heads, a new cam, 65lb/hr injectors, new shocks/struts, torque arm, Lower Control Arms, and I still need to do a fuel pump.

Guys like Viper have gutted out the bottom end, put in new bearings, forged pistons, etc etc, and even thrown on an upgraded transmission and 12-bolt rear end.

there is a long list of what you can do to prep your motor for it.

                    Re: what kind of boost...

I got rid of those plugs too, they tripped the SES light and caused the car to run like crap, time to update my sig i guess.
