  • lost the engine!

    well I spun a bearing :(
In light of this I decided to ship my motor to Abbott racing and let Lance go to town on it and do a complete build!

Should be gone a month. I hope to be installing it and tuning the car in late september :)

gotta be more than that, the heads/pistons/rods will put you over 2K alone.

                    Re: lost the engine!

                    Hey Linxs,
Not trying to be jerky or anything, but curious. (seen many spun bearings on the old 3800 in the past couple of years...seems more popular than just old rings blowing oil)
What was your rev limiter set at? did you keep it at the stock 5800 rpm or had you raised the rev limiter?

second question for group: do we have an oil pump that is sorta weak by high performance standards or something? is the stock oil pump putting out enough pressure under extreme loads? is it putting out enough pressure for the built or somewhat built engines or the forced induction crowd. I know not everyone spins a bearing but it does seem very popular.

sorrry to hear you gotta do all that work on your ride. i hope it all turns out great. good luck.

I did the opposite, I blew my rings because of high AFRs.
I hydrolocked a cylinder and bent the rod.
A spun bearing would be my worst nightmare.
I would say that our oil pumps dont give enough pressure for the FI crowd. But you can just get an oil pressure kit and its good.

yea grayman, you can get oil pressure kits from zzp and intense-racing.com for the boosted people that want some more pressure. It is like 15-20 bucks or something like that

Hey about the oil pressure kits....
I did not see one at zzp but intense has one for 30 bucks. (OPK-671)
Anyway...they show a picture of the kit and also mention something about the oil filter elbow. where exactly does this kit go? my first conclusion is that the kit would modify the oil pump and that means gutting and tearing down the motor a bit to put the kit on. On the other hand they are talking about the oil filter elbow...is that all that needs to be removed? tell me it's that easy...please....
