Is it possible? If I could flip the manifolds around to face forward for a turbo setup that would be very convenient...

I know a guy who took his manifold to the shop and the shop went by the holes on his manifold and created a forward sweeping headers for his turbo.

Re: Flipping stock manifolds
I hate to make a thread about this so what I wanna know are our cars faster in reverse because sometimes when I back up and I hit the gas hard the car feels more powerful that it does than when I am regular driving straight. The car even burns rubber while in reverse but never in drive someone shed some light on this for me

Re: Flipping stock manifolds
when in Drive, the rear tires need to propel the enitre car forward (or push it) thus why we have a torque arm to handle the flex from that pushing. When you are in reverse the tires have nothing to push. The Front end is then the one draging and the torque arm becomes essentially useless.
Strange place to post that Q?

Re: Flipping stock manifolds
3.059:1 1st gear
1.625:1 2nd gear
1.00:1 3rd gear
0.696:1 4th gear
2.294:1 reverse
Those are your gear ratios, close enough. First gear has a torque multiplication of 3.06; reverse only 2.23. So if your crank puts out say 150 lb-ft, in first gear the tranny will put out 3.06*150=459; in reverse only 334. (I'm assuming not peak torque, maybe around idle and also ignoring the rear gear). First gear IS faster than reverse, you just aren't used to going quickly in reverse. Find an empty parking lot and drive 25 in reverse and you'll see what I mean. Of course these gears are for auto, but stick still has a shorter first.

But does anyone know if the bolt/exhaust outlet patterns would allow for flipping the manifolds forward?1998 M5 3.8 Mystic Teal Camaro<br />Flowmaster exhaust, Pacesetter headers, 3\" cat, 3\" S-pipe, whisper lid, ram air, Spec Stage 1 clutch, Poly Trans mount, Walbro 255LPH. Re: Flipping stock manifolds
You can flip them on a 3.4. You end up with the exhaust exiting near the alternator and the power steering pump. You would need to fabricate a new mount for the alternator... there is enough room on the drivers side next to the power steering to make the bend you need to go around it. Don't have anything specific to the 3.8.
