Re: just installed fff turbo kit....

Mine took a little while, but thats because I had oil in the intake side as well. My garage sits on a slight upward tilt, and after letting my car sit one night, there were four tiny puddles under my car...one under each exhaust tip on the borla. :(

Pretty much all turbos will throw a little smoke, especially if you dont have a cat installed.

I just notice some smoke after i come to a stop after getting into the boost
My brothers turbo'd Mazda Miata used to do that until we modified the PCV plumbing.

Have you done the PCV mod?

Re: just installed fff turbo kit....

yeah i did the pcv mod. i need to get all my silicone conectors nice and tight because right now i'm seeing about 2.5 lbs of boost and i really only see that in 2'nd gear. 1'st geart it starts to see boost at around 3k rpm. I blocked off the internal wastegate and installed a tial one with a .4 bar or about 5.8 psi. i just didn't want to go over 6 without upgrading my injectors first. although i'm only seeing about half of what the wastegate should be rated at. like i said before i ordered a 2.5 to 2 in one for the compressor. right now i have a straight 2.5 and i think it might be leaking around the compressor end. quick question is there supposed to be a gasket on the compressor housing between the housing and back plate. i don't think i saw one. that could be another place for leaking. one last thing i'ts been throwing o2 sensor and MAF codes, and an idle air control code. i cleaned the MAF i think the o2 sensors and the maf probably had oil on them from before. not completely sure where the IAC is on the 2000 + with the electronic throttle control, so i haven't cleaned it yet.

I replaced all the silicone connectors and added the compressor housing gasket, but i can't seem to see more than about 2.5 pounds of boost. The only thing i can think of is that when i ordered the tial wastegate, maybe they put in the wrong spring. I had told them to put in .4 bar which is roughly 5.8 psi. I guess i could hook up the boost controller and limit the amount of boost that the wastegate is seeing, just to see if my problem lies in the waste gate. Any other ideas?

check for exhuast leaks........... and intake leak does not take much of a link to bleed all your boost off

Re: just installed fff turbo kit....

well i found the problem the compressor was seeing 5.8 pounds of boost but by the time it went through the intercooler it had dropped to 2.5. All i had to do was hook up the boost controller and now i'm seeing 5.7pounds. but i did notice a little bit of surge when i got it up that high, and i noticed a little smoke out the tail pipe. Any thoughts about the one way check valve on the vacum line that goes to the FMU. I installed it and the fmu will only see boost. Theone thing with doing this is that after i get into around 5-6 lbs of boost my fuel pressure will go up to around 80 psi. the pressure will stay at that psi unless i don't drive the car for a few hours. I would think that if i removed the check valve it would let the pressure drop back to the normal 50 psi and take some strain off the line. then when it went back to boost it would go up again. What are the positives and negatives to the check valve?

Re: just installed fff turbo kit....

i know the checkvalve is facing the right way, i'm just curius if it it truly necessary? the FMU will operate exactly as it is supposed to w/o it what is the benefit of keeping the extra pressure constantly on the fuel system. W/O the checkvalve the fmu will be able to compensate the minute it sees boost. so i'm not sure why grayman recomends putting the checkvalve in. I guess if one was worried about the fmu not being able to bump up the pressure quickly enough, but then the first time you get on it the pressure starts off low and the fmu builds the pressure at a rate of 6 to 1. I think i'm going to take the check valve out so there is'nt 80 to 90 psi always in the lines after i get in the boost.

the fuel psi should drop back off something is hooked up wrong OR the FMU is bad/sticking

Re: just installed fff turbo kit....

I don't know if the FMU you are using is different but on the one I used to run you didn't put the check valve on the signal line, but on the other barb where the rate adjust was. I used an older BEGi(Corky Bell) FMU, but it worked just like this one:
                        http://www.bellengineering.net/Pages...struction.html

So if you have the check valve btwn the intake manifold(behind the throttle) and the FMU I think that would certainly keep the pressure at ~80psi since it's holding that boosted signal inside the FMU.

thats exactly what it does. it holds the boost in the fmu so the pressure will hold. I was just wondering why anybody would want to have the fmu hold the high psi. I just put the checkvalve in because i saw on graymans site to do it. I did it without thinking. I Know exactly what it does by putting it in, i just don't know why you would want to put it in. Guess i'll take it out, so the fmu pressure can drop back down when not under boost.

if i flip it around it wont let air pass through, so it will never see boost. It only lets air go one way hence why my pressure will go up and stay up, because it's not letting air pass back the other way. I think i'm just going to take it out. Thanks for the info. I'll try and get pics of my setup soon.
