Running no BOV

I heard from Grand National guys that BOV arents really necessary to have. But their fuel management system is different from ours isnt it? How would cars like ours act without a BOV with MAF sensor and everything? Will it run rich every time it shift?

are grand national cars auto or stick or did they come as both?

BOV more needed with manual tranny. not as needed with auto...as the Throttle plate does not slam shut during shift.

I dont know of a manual buick to speak of, guessing they are all auto.

and you wont need a BOV, but the sound of a BOV is priceless (HKS SSQV FTW!)

BOV is to eliminate surging as the throttle plate slams shut between shifts. Basically, the plate slams shut and the pressure that was trying to get through attempts to turn around and head the other way. This in turn slows/stops the turbo from spinning. Resulting in lost boost between shifts, added spool time once you get into the next gear and possible surging (surging = bad).

It's better to have BOV. My blower runs cooler with it. Back then I would touch the blower and it was very hot. With the BOV, it's warm now.

you can find the BOV pretty cheap. I bought my BOSCH valve off ebay for like 15 bucks shipped I think it was for my custom powerdyne setup I am working on.

bov will extend the life of what your making boost with

our MAF is in the TB so its not and issue

I already have a bosch BOV. I was running that before but I'm fabricating new piping right now and planning on getting a BOV next time I go to Japan. So, I just want to run it without BOV till next spring because I don't feel like fabricating an adapter thing for bosch BOV to just use for couple months.

Thats what BOV marketers say. But alot of GN guys disagrees with it.

Also, MAF is still before the throttle even though its in the TB.

How many of the GN guys have manual transmissions? If the manual guys are telling you a BOV is worthless then tell them to please AIM me. If the auto guys are telling you its worthless, they're probably right. However do what you want. If you bend an impeller shaft (i think thats the one that gets bent) don't cry.

umm its proven that BOV help spools after shifts............. look at al lthe production turbo car they all ahve BOV's

How many of the GN guys have manual transmissions? If the manual guys are telling you a BOV is worthless then tell them to please AIM me. If the auto guys are telling you its worthless, they're probably right. However do what you want. If you bend an impeller shaft (i think thats the one that gets bent) don't cry.

All GNs come with Auto. I have auto too. So, it doesn't matter then?

No production turbo cars have BOVs. They won't pass emission if they did. Most turbo car has BPV.
But turbo buicks, turbo ford 2.3L, etc don't have neither of them.

From a different forum, I just came to a conclusion that you can get away without BOV on low boost. But on higher boost, it can cause the boost to escape after the throttle blade has closed and cause the turbine in the compressor to flutter.

BOV can pass emissions. Just reroute the pressure back into the intake instead of into the atmosphere (it also helps keep the turbo spooled between shifts).

Not having one doesn't cause the boost to "escape" there is no where for it to escape. It causes it to turn around and go headlong back into your turbo. That pressure can cause a slight flutter of the turbine, it can stop the turbo complete, it can bend a shaft, it forces you to respool your turbo after a shift. However, most of these don't really apply to automatics because you don't let off the throttle between shifts. Thus the distinction people have been trying to make between an Auto and a manual.

Like I've said and i think others have as well. Not haven't one isn't really a big deal for an auto. It is a big deal for a manual.

okay a bypass vavle is the same thing..... it just put the air back in front of the maf Becuase it is place'd AFTER the maf thats the only reason, so they all still have it :spank:

i forgot to hook up my BOV one time and after i let of the gas at the end of the track the turbo surged REALLY REALLY bad to the point that i thought i broke the turbo

the bosch BOV are cheap so why not?
