  • supercharger switch?

Is it possible to run the car under normal power through natural aspiration, and have a switch to turn the supercharger on when need be? This would improve gas mileage until track days? As unrealistic as it sounds, it was in Mad Max Road Warrior and it got me thinking. Any thoughts or comments?

No, its not possible. Get nitrous if you want to go n/a daily and more power at the track.

Why would you want to? Under normal driving conditions with say the powerdyne you would get better gas mileage than n/a most likely..

they do have those little electric "superchargers" they could with a switch to turn it on and off... pulls in either 250 cfm or 500 cfm i cant remember. prolly wouldnt be a great boost in HP... nitrous is your best option with that.

ps... road warrior movies kick butt!

but if you really wanted to do it... i dont see why you couldnt have the stock belt for everyday driving and then when you go to the track you can put the supercharged belt on... then youd be N/A on any given day but then S/C on track day. might be some problems im overlooking but just a thought

A s/c'ed car only uses more fuel while in boost. If you dont hammer the throttle everywhere you go, then your fuel consumption will be the same as if it were n/a.

if you wanted power just for track then you go nitrous. A blower is ment for people who want the power all the time. It would be stupid to pay 3k for a blower just for the track when you can get nitrous for 500 and it does better than a sc.

that makes me sad :( some people just don't have any imagination.

mercedes benz used an electromechanical clutch, such as those found on an A/C compressor, to disengage the S/C.

                    quote about the 2001 Lorinser Mercedes-Benz S-Class K50:

so, assuming you got ahold of a setup like that, or made one somehow, you could 'turn off' your S/C with the flick of a switch. a supercharger switch.

Go to ebay and type in electric supercharger. :D

Your gas mileage actually gets better with the SC. As long as you don't have a heavy foot and are not boosting it all the time.

Grayman, Shirl, and I who have had our SC for than 4 years will attest to it.

Ofcourse if you change your injectors, computer tuning, and such the gas mileage does dip. But not too badly.

not only would that be expensive but not practical.

As long as you run TR6 plugs you shouldnt overheat the motor.

yea, you wont overheat your motor unless there is something wrong with it internally to begin with.
