  • Hello, 3.8 noob here with a couple ?

Hi guys, great board ya got here. I'm not new to forced induction, but I am new to the 3.8 arena. I have a 97 with the 3.8 that is totally stock at the moment, and I'm looking to put a minimal effort turbo kit together for it. My plans are for a t3/t4 hybrid intercooled turbo, I'm planning on using an FMU for enrichment, and an MSD DIS6 for timing control. Here are the questions I haven't been able to find clear answers to by searching.

Will the stock injectors support around 300 RWHP at 6 to 8 PSI with the FMU and a 255 LPH intank?

WIll it even get to 300 RWHP at 6 to 8 PSI? What is realistic to expect here.

Do you think I need a BOV with the auto?

This will be a mild turbo application, and I want the small turbo cause I want boost to be almost instant.

You would probably want to go with T70 turbo. People have been able to put down 300rwhp with only 5-6psi. But they were running lean with just the FMU and stock injectors.

T70 is too big if you are looking for a small turbo, you want like a 60trim.

you dont need a BOV with an auto

      and welcome

Thanks for the help so far, would the 24 lb injectors out of my Z do enough with the FMU, or would I need larger still?

BTW, here is a link to my car domain, the info on intercooler pipe routing on page 3 may be of some benefit to the guys here, I've almost got my Z done and now I wanna work on the ol daily driver, I'm not looking for huge power out of it, but if I could stay with/ or beat a bolt on LS1 that would be great.

          get 36# injecotrs from GTP
          get HP Tuners
          go fast

also you need a BOV it save's the turbo from bending the blades/shaft things

Is it cheaper to have a shop make a turbo kit? or is it cheaper to buy the FFF kit? or what would you suggest?

Can any mechanics shop make this or only special shops that speciale in forced induction? I'm just curious because I don't want to go my mechanic and try and get a quote on it and he just looks at me, gives a small laugh and then says "what an idiot" :(

Also, what type of price would I be looking at after purchasing the list of items that Viper stated in his above post?

Has anyone thought of making an adapter plate out of 1/2 steel plate so you can swap the stock manifolds to thier opposite sides? I'm sure someone has thought of this, will it work or do the manifolds come out in places up front that make it not feasable, cause if the bolt patern is the only block, thats easy to deal with.

I know the bolts are in the heads, I'm talking about a 1/2 steel plate bolted to the heads with recessed bolt holes, then drill and tap the correct bolt patern into the steel plate to put the manifold from the opposite side to the steel plate. Similar to the adapters they sell for wheels.
