  • turbo time is approaching!

ok, so i'm getting my garage all set up and i'm getting my budget together, and i need to know, if i'm gonna tear apart the engine for the rebuild, should i replace the cam? i know the stock cam is really good for a turbo but with 100k miles on it do you think its worn down too much?

if you are planning a big turbo build, ABSOLUTELY replace the cam.

What would be a good cam for a turbo?

What would be a good cam for a supercharger?

Relatively asking cam size on a smaller turbo/sc that will still give good gains.

Our cams are roller cams, so it is definitely not worn down. The stock cam will work great, changing the cam will add alot of money to the project and is not necessary unless you trying to put down some big numbers.

I guarantee a turbo setup with a stock cam will give you plenty of power. Unless you have lots of money or you are going all out, I would spend the money elsewhere.

besisdes heads which are 4x as much as a cam, what else would be a better upgrade for the money? A decent cam, springs, ret, etc cost about ~550 and you are looking at ~50hp w/ FI.

HP Tuners and a wideband should without a doubt come before a cam if you have to choose. Most people are not out to hit 10s in the 1/4 mile. If all you want is to have a 12 second v6 fbody from a turbo, then there is not much reason to get a cam. Spend the money on the right turbo and spend the time to learn how to tune it. The stock cam will make it easier to tune and keep the drivability and gas milage very similar to what it was.

I am running a stock L36 with a 60-1 turbo and 7psi. I ran a 12.73 @ 106.95. I easily have low 12s or maybe high 11s on the stock cam with more boost. This drivetrain is in an S10 that weighs about 300lbs less though.

I just dont like to see people waste money if they dont need to. It all depends on his goals. I personally try to keep things very streetable and cheap to replace if something happens.

yea HP tuners is a good suggestion, I guess its just personal preference, I had my cam heads etc before I had HP tuners or DHP.

yeah, i'll probably wait. i can always put a cam in later too. i guess i'll just have to measure it to make sure once i get it apart but i'll probably leave it for later. good call tho dude. my main goal for it right now is to run low 12's maybe a high 11. mostly i just wanna be able to roll up on 'vettes or any bucket of rice and not have to worry none. i wanna get this started next summer too so i gots alotta saving to do, especially cuz i'm rebuilding the 2.2 in my "truck" starting this weekend and thats running me 1200 already.
