just wondering...what would be the practicality of a twin turbo setup on a 3800? instead of one big turbo put in two small ones? woulld this even work? just a thought...

    Re: twin turbo?

the idea has been messed around with, but never really explored. it would require dual intercoolers if u wanted the air charge cooled, lots of IC piping, and most likely forward sweeping headers to place the turbo's in the space between the engine and radiator cuz there's little room down near the trans to put them there. it would cost more than a single would because of the piping and dual turbo's, as well as dual everything else like wastegates, intercoolers, filters, ect.

      Re: twin turbo?

the idea is for the smaller turbo to spool the bigger turbo off the line....TT FTW!
you could just spray off the line though
2k2 camaro, K&N, SLP whisper lid, Konis, AEM, HP Tuners, Angel eyes/Halos, CF SS ram air hood, 4.10s, Zexel Torsen, UMI SFCs, CrossFire, BFGs, Gatorback, Catco, Flows, and TLC! DONT feed the Trolls!

        Re: twin turbo?

Gotta remember that just b/c its TT doesnt necessarily mean more power. A single turbo with high boost can produce just as much power as twins, just depends on how you want your power curve to look like.

slow6 has a better/cheaper/more practical idea...just feed it the bottle off the line.

someone will do a TT eventually and you dont need Dual I/C's just one very large FMIC with inlets on both side and an outlet up top, much like zzp's.

actually i do believe there is a member here that was in the process of having their car TT'd. cant remember the name though. they said it was costing a pretty penny for it though.

I may be wrong about this, but wouldnt twin turbos and spraying off the line be even faster? also, for the ics i was thinking i might be able to use these:

I work for Intense racing and I'm in the middle of my build up right now. It is a 98 fireberd. We had it back halfed with a 4-link of course it is a full out drag race application. It has our 3800 race block, IS4 heads, IS4 turbo cam, with twin gt35r ball bearing turbo's, liquid to air IC and an ATI 400 turbo trans, 9 inch and alot more. We are gonna push it harder than anything we ever have. Being rear wheel drive we'll see what these motors can really take. We've got out fwd at 9.22 @ 154 mph right now but the trans are so weak we haven't been able to turn it up yet. It should be very exciting.
Here are some pics from the start

there is also a shop in michigan doing a TT fbody right now. They are getting all the parts in for it as we speak. They are building the motor for boost.

They already sell kits for the 3.8l fbody for single turbo peeps, they have 3 stages where stage 1 is a non-intercooled kit.

there website is in development, so they can't really advertise till it is done. Pace Fabrications is their name. They ran their shop turbo'd 3.8 all year here at the local track.

with the stage 1 kit non-intercooled they were running 7psi and mid-to-high 13s and the stage 1 kit costs just under 3k. They also make custom FFH for the kits and intercooler kits that go with the different stages. They use DHP for tuning.

Prices and specs for the stage 2,3 kits he hasn't told me but they do come with intercooler in those kits. FFH were like 1k extra to any kit

Their TT project is going to be using Custom set of GT35R BALL BEARING TURBOS
