  • TC or SC?

Ok, so I've been looking over my options and studying each and learning how they work and what not.

Well, I'm curious as to what would better suit my need a turbo or supercharger.

I am not looking to have the fastest car ever, and I am also not looking to be at the track all the time to beat other cars.

I just want something to go to the local car shows so that little teenagers can drool and dream to get something like that and cruise around occasionally. But, when I'm on an empty highway or interstate still be able to downshift into 4th and stomp the gas and have that power there to make me get chills on my arms and bring a smile to my face.

I know that some people may say, if that's all you want, then buying either of them seems like a waste of money, but I've always wanted to have one since I was a teen watching my uncle's build up their camaro's and nova's and ride with them after it was completed and hearing the sound the sc would make and the cam......mmmmmmmm love that sound when idling.

So I want one, which would be best for me?

    ---------------------------
Upon reading some more about turbochargers and how they work, I have read that the downfall to turbo's is that they produce back pressure in the exhaust system. How much back pressure are we talking about? For this back pressure, is this the reason they are more efficient at higher rpm's?

    Re: TC or SC?

debates like this have been closed in the past due to flaming wars, but to answer ur Q bout turbo's....

Turbo sizing and design largely determine backpressure. if u want a turbo that gives u a lot of torque, u'll get more backpressure up top cuz it'll be smaller. Smaller=spool up quicker, quicker throttle response, low-end torque, ect. bigger turbo's take longer to spool up, but produce less backpressure at higher rpm's. Bigger=longer spool, less throttle response, high end hp, more effieient. The only time backpressure becomes an issue is when the backpressure in the header is more than the psi going into the motor, then u have exhaust trying to go back into the heads/cylinders. ways to prevent this are: bigger turbo's, high flow turbo back exhaust, exhaust cutout right after the turbo, and a working wastegate. if u want best of all worlds, get a ball bearing(less friction, quicker spool), ceramic turbine(less weight, quicker spool, good till 10 psi only), TO4E turbo with a big exhaust housing for better flow/less backpressure.

that to large for a M5 car

you would want a T60-1 for your goals and you will be very happy as far as the turbos go...

if you pick up that kit in the for sale area that would make you happy too

Yup. Forward flowing headers or custom Y pipe, custom intercooler piping, custom down pipe.

Turbos dont have to "fit" the car, any turbo will fit, its having the piping that needs to fit.

Can someone post the links of companies that do custom piping?

Also any links that have these turbo's so I can stop seeing price tags of $1650 and up, way up.

If you want a cheaper turbo, just look into something smaller like a T3/T4. They are usually $300-$600. They dont give at much HP gain, but if you want to more HP, gotta pay for it.

Oh, I know I will have to pay to go fast, but it just hit me with a bit of a shock to see the prices of some of the turbo's and how fast they can rack up. It may just be cheaper to get a supercharger and an intercooler, depending on prices for the custom tubing and the other accessories I will need aside from the y pipe and headers.

I was looking at the numbers and the t60-2 is cheaper than the t60-1. But it says it gives an honest 10% more air than the t60-1. Why would they sell it for cheaper if it is better than the other?

This will save you a bunch of money, just a heads up for ya :)

It doesnt use forward flowing headers, it has a custom Y pipe.

These dont come up for sale all that often, so if you are serious about a turbo kit, I'd get on it.
