  • Quick S/C question

I found a used Powerdyne kit. Only thing is it's for a 5.7. Would it work with my 97 3.8 Camaro with little modification? I'm looking for a cheap kit if anyone has any recommendations. Basically, just the S/C, my dad and I would be making or buying anything else that's needed. I was looking at the ones from the the buicks, but they're going to require alot of modification to make work (so I've read). Anything S/C that'll just bolt up with me doing very little midification?

the buick SC will not work without an extensive amount of modification. Not to mention you need a sc off of a european versionof the car to accomidate for rwd.

I doubt that 5.7L SC will work, but i cant say that for 100% sure.

youre much better off just finding a powerdyne or ATI blower that fits a 3.8 camaro/firebird and "build" from there.

OK. Cuz according to this thread> http://forum.camarov6.com/showthread.php?t=74443 , you can use the buick if you buy all that extra stuff and then cut into the firewall. That's no big deal to me, so.....But, I guess I'll see if I can find an ATI or Powerdyne blower somewhere.

So far, the only thing I've really found is a Powerdyne for a LT1. Would a charger for a 4.3 or another Chevy work?

Again, not without lots of fabrication.

              Here, try this:

I am not sure what year your car is, but they are available for the 98-02 years as well.

Thanks. I was hoping to find just the S/C so I can save abit of $$, but it looks like I may have to get a whole kit. It's a 97 3.8 Camaro, BTW.

what about turboing it. that might be a little bit easier (especially to find just the unit itself) if ur going to do the piping urself anyways.

but i dont know for sure

Nah, not really. Turbo charging requires MUCH more piping to be made and fabricated since it is exhaust driven and needs an intercooler.

A supercharger just needs one pipe to the intake plenum which is short and one for the airfliter which is also very short. And it doesnt require an intercooler.

                      Re: Quick S/C question

Ya, like Showdown said, it'd be alot more work to turbo. It may give more power, but I'm not looking for the insanely fast, going to beat everyone car. I'm just looking for mid 14's with-out Nos (may add it in the future for some more boost :P). I know what everyone around me has, and the only thing that I really want to beat is my friends SRT-4.

Supercharging just seems like the easier, more user-friendly kinda thing. Still get a nice gain from it, get it almost right away (no turbo lag :P ), and still can get that cool Blow-off sound (although I'm looking for a sleeper).
