  • turbo with q'?

    alright, ive got the 373's in the car, and want more power now... the next thing that im thinking is a turbo

    i kno theres a couple ppl on here with turbos so plz let me kno what im looking at for prices, and what all i hav 2 do to the engine and all the other components...

    my car is a 97 , and its got 138,000 miles on it.. i kno i need to port and polish my heads, but idk how much its would b

    id also like a website 2 go to, i kno sum ppl that know how 2 put them in, but would it b better just 2 hav it profesionally installed? thnx

    138,000 and going FI are two things that add up to you breaking that motor in a hurry. with a high mileage motor like that compression will be at a loss and FI depends on it.

    what current mods do you have?

    how much are you looking to spend?

      ive got magnaflow catbacks and thats it... i'll probably need a new engine rite?

      i really dont wanna spend over 5000

        well you are gonna need a turbo kit, FMU or injectors, turbo, (if not internally wastegated, a wastegate), blow off valve, tuning software (hptuners or dhp), new fuel pump, boost gauge, boost controller, and thats a turbo setup......

        however if i were you i would mod my car futher out before thinking about FI
        LSD
        gears (3.42>3.73 boosted)
        drvieshaft
        suspension
        etc.

          actually my 3.73's suck from a roll untill you get over 100 then the car really shines....

          You dont need to get your heads ported and polished for a turbo...dunno where or who you got that **** from

            actually that statement is all kinds of wrong. It is dependant on the type of boost. If it is a supercharger 4.10's are great if it is a turbo however I wouldn't even consider going over 3.42's. You need load on the motor for a turbo to produce more power, if you put to much of a mechanical advantage in the rear the turbo will suffer. Other than that what UDLOSE is completely right. Get all your other mods done first before considering FI of any type, you will be much happier and so will your car.

                gears (3.42>3.73 boosted). Turbo I agree but not supercharged. Maybe I'm splitting hairs since this post is a turbo thread but I thought I should mention it.

                  no your right....3.73's would be better on a supercharged car then a turbo one.,...the 3.73's on my turbo camaro hurt me

                    Yeah, that is unfortunate. Might try to swap with a v8 manual car if you can talk one into it if you dont have an upgraded diff or anything other than gears. Just a thought.

                      i have a auburn posi differential...and in spring when i get my new tranny and stall im also putting in 3.23's

                        Why go with the 3.23's over the 3.42's? Also you might want to think about upgrading that diff, the clutches wear out in auburns (unless it's an auburn pro). The Eaton is a strong piece if you decided to upgrade it.

                          most of the races i come accross are from a highway roll....and 3.23's will perform best from a roll but i will still be able to pull some nice times at the track

                          i havent had a problem with anything in my rear end yet...the only thing that went was my tranny

                          the guy i got it from off ebay said it was a Auburn but didnt know what model, and it came with the 3.73's on it. The guy that I had install my rear end said it was a very nice Auburn and not the clutch type

                            It's probably a pro then so you should be good there and I agree for what you are doing the 3.23's are the right choice, i was just curious.
