  • Can someone explain Pulleys 4-6-8 rib?

Can someone explain the difference between the ribs on a pulley. I am trying to find the right one to buy for my SC. Also, does anyone have a chart that converts the diameter to the boost.

you are running on the smooth side of the belt though?

Youd want to do all mods / tuning before dropping to a smaller pulley to reduce KR.

i am not running on the smooth side, I have a gatorback. SO start w/ the 3.33 inch for around 6 psi. I have all mods, complete built motor, I just need the tuning. So it makes more sense to tune for 6 then go up to 10 right? Also the rib question still wasn't answered.

I guess some people dont have problems running 6-10 psi on stock tune, some have major problems. If the question was in a more extreme amount (say, 10-15psi) my answer would be: only if you care about your engine ;) Me? I would tune 6psi and not go over like 8psi on the stock tune, but thats just me (IMHO)

              knock retard

Also how do you plan on running on the grooved side of the belt? What belt routing are you using? Is this a 3.4?

4-6-8 ribs? do you mean 4-6-8 rib as in the number of ribs on the pulley? thats usually what you refer to when discussing number of ribs on a belt..

Re: Can someone explain Pulleys 4-6-8 rib?

                  Yes its a 3.4.

I have eliminated the the AC compressor, so i plan on making a bracket and mounting it where the gm dummy pulley is bottom left side under the alternator. Yes, I'm using the inside of the belt so that I will get all boost and no slip. Vortech said their blowers work terribly on the back side and they wouldn't even try it.

Ok, so the ribs are the same as the number on the belt. I should be able to count the alternater ribs and use the same.

now what about this knock retard.. that I don't understand. Since its a 3.4 i am going with Megasquirt, but don't want to mess with timing or spark yet since only 1 other has. Only fuel for now so that hopefully i don't need the FMU.

Re: Can someone explain Pulleys 4-6-8 rib?

KR is knock retard. It means your knock sensors are recognizing knock in your engine either false (exhaust rattling, ect) or real (pre-detonation, ect) and is retarding your timing to try to elimate the knocking. KR is bad it means you either have too much timing or not enough fuel if its real.

You don't need to completely tune the car for 6psi. In fact I wouldn't really recommend it. First you tune the fuel so you get no KR, then you deal with spark/timing. You should be fine starting with 10psi of boost as long as your going to tune it pronto. I wouldn't recommend starting with 10psi of boost and running it that way if your not planning on reprogramming it. You will also need a better fuel pump and maybe better injectors as well (which will need to be tuned)

Thanks, I m making the bracket for the blower now, and just got my hands on a 3.33 pulley from ebay. That should suffice for now. Second, I plan on turing thr car with megasquirt first, and then starting with the 6 psi range and tuning. I can't go over 9-10 psi b/c i have a big cam and higher compression pistons. With a an innovative wideband o2 and megasquirt, i should be able to adjust things. FOr my injectors i have bosch design 2 high flow 19lbs, I really don't want to re-do them as they are a pain, but will if i absolutely have to. Does anyone forsee them not working well?

oh, as for the fuel pumps, which is better, inline or in tank. Will te walboro 255 lph in pump good for the 3.4? Also, how would the msd inline work, by cutting the existing? Please reccomend any sizes because i don't know which i need?
