  • i got a crazy idea... (long read)

i was thinking... since boost speed of a centrifugal is determined by it's compressor wheel and engine speed... it should flash 5 psi in a short period but will have to build up the 9-10. (like in my car, on 10psi). But, something like a vortech or procharger would boost quicker. if i were to intsall a v8 supercharger, i would get your boost almost instantly but i would have to run a BOV/vacuum modulated or electronic boost controller. the way i see it, when it comes to powerdyne, the blower housings are the same, it's the internals that are different. im going to try to find a used v8 powerdyne and just use the whole thing if possible.. if the housing was just a tad different (which i don't think ill run into), i think swapping the internals would suffice. then i thought about the mounting plate having to be used from my blower to the v8 blower... but the compressor housing is "rotational". in other words, everything (inlet and oultet) can be rotated or "clocked" to fit a particular application. granted, i'm sure that are some differences here and there but these would be minor differences. powerdyne couldn't make any money if they had a different housing for every application. the cost to pour the molds and to make the molds would run them out of business alone...now, if they build for a v6 application, the compressor wheel has a certain angle to it with a certain size pulley to achieve "this" psi "rating" and "that" rpm. that compressor wheel rpm has it's maximum. anything beyond that comp wheel rpm and the blower becomes unstable with the potential to fly apart. the inside of the housing is only designed to flow but so many cfm's. now take a v8 compressor with is designed to flow more cfm's (more volume) at lower rpm's, tossing it on a v6, because of the increased volume, a v8 compressor rated at 6 psi now installed on a v6 will give 11 psi. pretty much, it's the equivalent of putting a well matched 56mm turbo on an LS1 to achieve 7psi and then saying "to heck with that" and installing a 76mm turbo to achieve 18 psi......if you were feeling lucky.

any ideas on why it would/wouldnt work? im thinking about tackling it this summer if i have the time/money.

p.s. update on my car: the meth injection kit and bosch BOV are installed and im waiting on a tune this weekend!

so you want to get a powerdyne BD11 from a v8 and swapped the parts? Your powerdyne is the same as the v8 ones from my knowledge. You wouldn't be gaining anything

could be, the difference being the compressor wheel i'm sure. i plan on calling up PD tomorrow and seeing what they think/have to say.

There is no difference that I see. A bd11 headunit is a bd11 headunit. If you are looking for more power out of your powerdyne, get the 928motorsports racing rebuild. That will make it more efficient

Their all the same internals, you could go with the gear driven one but you would have to run an oil line, which if I ever go with a superchager again it will be gear driven or roots type. I think someone said that the gear driven powerdynes are the same measurements as the bd11, so it would fit in the mounting bracket.

yea you can actually send in your belt driven and they can upgrade to the gear driven I believe. Someone looked into it awhile ago but then never did it. It will support 10+ no problem though once gear driven

There's actually no difference for V6 or V8. Even a Honda Civic that use a PD is the same.

The boost of PD is actually more immediate than Vortech or ATI.

You want to upgrade. Go for the XB-1a. the compressor seems to be better. I'm curious if the compressor would be suited to our head unit.

the 37k is from school, not my car.

and yes it would be worth it if it worked, i would be breaking even from the money i get from selling the old blower :)
