Hello, I am new to this board and it sems to be the most informative one that I have seen. I am glad I have found it. I have a 1998 Firebird that was bone stock until someone nailed me good and I had some body work done. Since they killed my hood, I elected to upgrade to an OEM Ram Air. Lucky me! Since I have aquired this, I have noticed a huge increase in performance even though I am running the stock air box. I do plan to run a cold air induction in the future.
My delima is that I was chatting with a buddy of mine about my old Grand National which was a 3.8L turbo as everyone knows. He suggested I buy the parts from a wrecked one and add to my vehicle. After doing a little research, I found that is not as easy as it sounds. So, I thought supercharger since they don't seem as difficult to install.
Now I read Viper's post, thanks btw it was very informative and a little discouraging. I looked at some of the front wheel drive supercharger systems and like he said the block is the same, but everything else is different. Now, please excuse my ignorance because I am not a mechanic. I have a 3800 supercharged sitting at my disposal, but block is shot. Since the lower block is basically the same if I was to remove the intake, heads, supercharger and pulleys, belts, etc......can I simply replace them on my car and convert it?
If I can, I have a few questions. Will my computer box need to be changed? Will I have clearance issues do to the way the Firebird motor is crammed under the dash? Any other suggestions and hints would be extremely appreciated. Sorry, I am not in a position to invest a huge amount of money at the moment and basically have this supercharged 3800 sitting in my lap. Thanks in advance for any input.
