honestly with a very good tune you can get away with about 15psi on a high milage motor before i would become scared. On another forum we have a member with 120K and has been running 22.5psi for over a few months now on a 100% stock motor...not a single problem.

He went 12.7 @ 117mph on 21 psi. Not sure if he has vids, but he is a regular poster on FTV6.

Thanks for the props guys! That would be me, although my screen name is different. The vids on my fquick were at 12-14 psi I think, but I have not got to borrow my brothers camera for vids of 22 psi, but I did get a still shot of the boost gauge pegged with my digital camera that is up on the other site. The car does see 20+ psi every time I drive it, no low boost setting. Everything but the engine is breaking now, hehe. I don't know how long it will last and actually expected it to break long ago. I put the stuff on it at 115k and the car now has over 120k on it. It has been on 12+ psi for most of that time and over 1000 miles on 17+psi.

We rented a turbo deisel SUV with top mounted intercooler. first thing I did was pop the hood to check it out. (haha shoulda seen how tiny the cute little turbo was) anyhow man that intercooler was hotter than hell. hot like wipe off sweat fling it at it and parts of it would sizzle. Now, I've never owned a turbo vehilce so I odn't know how hot the IC normally gets.. meh there you have it my cheap 2 cents.

On a side note:

Is there anyone that makes a turbo header that I could just buy by itself?

I can't see spending $4K for a kit when the only 2 good things are the header and the turbo. So even - a $1200 for header/turbo thats 3K for piping? c'mon .. That and even if I wanted to spend that $, shipping cost + duty to this country would pwn me.

headers, turbo, wastegate, blow off valve, couplers, t bolt clamps, boost controller, intercooler, cold side plumbing, etc etc etc


....someone needs to do some reading before jumping out and getting a turbo kit.

yeah you missed the point though, I realize what is needed. I can slowly peice all the rest off ebay or something. But what I can't find is the header

1st off it would cost me about $900 to ship a turbo kit here.
2nd the import tax would be 50% of 3-4K ..

whereas on something for like $100-250ish they let slide... so part by part I wouldnt have to spend much if any at all taxes.

this is a cost issue, not a "i don't know what i'm doing and havn't read issue" so i could do it your way, spend 10K... or do it my way and spend half that.

I choose me ;)

sometimes I wish I lived back in Canada... + they speak english there lol

and headers....
-one person makes them
-might be able to find them used
-or you make your own

i am going to be modifying some pacesetter headers for my twin turbo motor. ill post pics whenever i get around to doing it all. if you have friends that can weld things up really nicely and somewhere local that you can get some nice piping bent up for you... anything is possible. right now im running out of luck cause the kid with my other turbo decided to not sell it to me... which is stupid cause im giving him a 77mm BB turbo for a little 14b. i might just stick with the 77mm turbo and see what happens with that!

Never said it was strange.. I was adding to the convo about how top mounts kinda suck. And mentioned it was hot enough to boil water..

if i really wanted to i could make you a whole turbo kit is you supplied the flanges and ****...but honestly its a pain in the *** and im hard on time.
