  • Knock free?

I plan on running a 6psi supercharger to start out with on my 2000 Firebird 3.8 M5 with the stock Y-pipe exhaust. With the following list of mods, should I be knock free? (These are all preliminary ideas, nothing specific yet.) Cam, rockers, springs, valves, pushrods, lid, K&N filter, downpipe, headers, colder thermostat, PCM, resonator delete, silencer delete. Pretty sure I didnt forget anything...And if so, would the same mods keep me knock free if I decided to move up to 10psi? Thanks for the help.

Hp tuners should be first on the list in my opinion before any other mods cause then you can tune for them

76 Camaro Rally Sport-355/TH350- Soon to be LT1/TH350 with a little laughing gas to wake it up...;)
    89 Ram D350 CTD/M5- 1 Ton Dually getting 27 MPG's

wait, so you have bo existing mods?

hp tuners is a program used to control tons of aspects of your motor.

No, as of now my Bird is bone stock. Will such a program be necessary for these mods? I know it would help get more power for what I have, and I am interested now, but with the mods I have listed would tuning be necessary? Would problems arise in my car if I didn't?

lets just put it this way....it would be stupid not to tune it.

                Re: Knock free?

HP tuners is a type of tuning software that you plug into the cars ALDL port and you can change fuel and spark attributes of your car as well as gear ratio and tiresize adjustments... you can also wire in a wideband O2 sensor like an innovative motorsports LC-1 to improve tunability, search it here and go to there website to learn more cause i have a 3.4 and i cant use it so i havent really looked into it any further... hope that helps

                  Re: Knock free?

Thanks Ninety. Hp Tuners or another tuning interface is definately on the list. So with all these mods should my car be knock free with 6psi of boost? 10 psi of boost?

                    Re: Knock free?

all depends on how much time you spend tuning it, but sure, you could get it down to 0*

                      Re: Knock free?

those mods, arent gona help you be Knock free. You need a tune to be knock free...nothing else you can do to stop it. Just the supercharger alone with add NR..yet along with the cam. If you dont get HP Tuners or a dyno tune after all the mods, i hope you have a savings account for a new motor.
