  • SO I think I'm gonna turbo my firebird...

    I just need to know what else I need. I'm buying shane's kit, and am not sure where to start with the repairs on the piping. When I get it then I'll know what is needed with that. What I need to know is what else I need. It has the turbo, IC, IC piping, and headers/piping for turbo.

    Things I know I want/need:
    * Couplings/clamps (best place to buy them??)
    * Manual boost controller
    * HP tuners and wideband (still trying to figure out what a v band is)
    * BOV (probably gonna get a crushed 1st gen dsm)
    *Oil feed/return lines (no idea where tog et these, nor the sizes etc.)

    Is there anything else I need? From what I've seen, the turbo is internally gated, so I wont need a wastegate. I'm gonna be running around 6-7 psi, and maybe higher at the track later, so I figured I didn't need water or meth kits yet. Should I get a stall for the tranny or anything else? I'm already gonna get colder plugs/new wires and do the pvc plug mod when it comes time.

    If you search this forum, i guarantee you will find everything you need. dozens of people ask the same question and most f the stuff you need to know is a mouse click away.

    my two cents, if ur planning on boosting at all would be to build up ur top end a bit eh? heads, injectors, fuel pump. boost isnt gonna do much if ur motor isnt set up for it.

      From what I read, it's better tog et a new cam and at least p & p heads. I'll have a new walbro pump and 24# injectors. I was jsut wondering hwta I need to complete the turbo kit, not to compliment it. I've read numerous threads, some saying that you need other things, like a stall, and others saying that just a stock car can handle boost well with the pvc mod. I'm just trying to figure out what is the best way to go at this. I want to know what I need to finish the kit and where tog et it, not what to make it work at its full potential.

        Re: SO I think I'm gonna turbo my firebird...

        i started mine and thats exactly what i did P&P heads, mild cam, P&P TB, MSD coils, MSD DIS, now id like some front flow headers like ive been seeing on here, frees up alot fo space for the turbo itself. i spent the money on a stage III clutch and im sure a stall would compliment ur set up.

        i think tiago had the best setup and def has the most knowledge i think about the whole matter, so ive been trying to emulate his kit from what i see at his site. alot of dyno work too, alot of dyno work and tuning.

          Ok thanks. Are the msd coils and msd dis good to have first? The kit I'm getting comes with pacesetters, so i wouldn't be using the forward flowing. I'm not sure what type of stall I'd be getting. I planned on PnP heads and a turbo cam(not sure which one yet). I eventually will upgrade rockers, valves, springs, pushrods, etc., but that's in the far future

            its nice to have the igintion firing well as well as having some bigger injectors in, with a turbo thats a must otherwise ur gonna be running way to lean on the fuel/air mixture. i think with a good PnP u will be all set head wise, my friend runs 6lbs with PnP heads, DIS, 21lb injectors, and he runs very well at the track without much more done to the topend.
