    Hey guys,

I thought I'd start a thread of my build progress in case you guys were interested. I'm doing a complete rebuild which is 1st bussiness, then adding the ffh turbo as seen other posts.

Days 1&2 engine is stripped except for pistons, crank, cam. Those will be coming out tomorrow and the block will be getting bored and honed monday. At the same time I'm having the heads and intakes ported and polished.

    Engine mods:
Swan high performance stroker rotating assembly.

    valvetrain
    Custom grind cammotion cam.
    Comp cams Lifters
    Manley 150# valve springs
    INTENSE 3/8" oil restricted pushrods
New pushroad locks, seals, seats, bolts
    Double roller timing chain
    ARP head studs
    ARP main studs

Doing all the obvious supportings mods too wideband, fuel system, trans, rear, etc. Shooting for 500+hp. :D

Lemme know if there's something I forgot on the Build and what you think of the setup. I'll keep updating as I go.

I'll be running the setup from thread: http://forum.camarov6.com/showthread.php?t=81959 It's a 1 off setup fabbed for me be a guy from the forums here. He also supplied the block and some other drivetrain peices and the turbo cam. The turbo setup will be a mp t70 with garrett ball bearings inside. FMIC intercooler.

No pics yet - all I got is a torn apart engine and some parts layin around.

*update - got the to bottom end but got stuck when I didn't have a 28mm socket for the timing chain. Should be out tomorrow and get the engine to the machine shop!

Wow. get ready to spend 5000+ at a minimum. Thats sweet tho man, thats my long term goal. I am doing a similar project to urs right now doing everything except for the stroker kit. If you want any help on the FMIC let me know. I just installed mine and it was pretty tricky but doable.
SLP CAI, RK Sport headers, P&Ped heads and intake, GT2 cam, Upgraded valvetrain, Z28 rear axle with 4.10s Tx Spd tune, Z06 rims, 2.5\" exhaust to flowmaster, 160* thermo, B&M ripper, upgraded ignition, rockford fosgate 12\" with sony xplode amp and HU.

lol, I'm working on an 8,000 budget, and I know I will go over. Oh well, it'll still be a 500hp monster for only 10grand! How can you beat that?

seriously.......You can get an LS1 off Ebay under warranty with a T56 trans for 4-5k. 1000 dollars for install and ur sitting well under 8k and going faster than your turbo stroker

                    Stock LS1=310 hp
                    Turbo 3800=500hp

                    500>310

Beleive me, I looooove V-8s. But for this build power and money were the variables.

Re: Engine and Turbo build thread

how about a 6l LQ4 with l76 heads, intake, cam, and headers? wicked sound, and $2500 plus junkyard LQ4.

turbo tim at clubgp.com hit 478 whp with stock heads and exhaust manifolds, stattama stage 1 turbo cam, t04 62-1, i/c and 1.7:1 roller rockers. that's a very mild combo.

what are your cam specs? the 3800 doesn't need to be revved...150# springs seems excessive. you can reach your goal with stattama stage 1 or 2 cam, or zzp gt1 and 105# springs.

imo, a pt61 would get to you 500 whp better. turbo buick guys with the pt61 run 20-25 psi, 206° cam, ported heads, 1 5/8" headers, and run under 11 seconds at 125 mph. and that's on 93 octane and alky injection.

it sounds like a good project.

Re: Engine and Turbo build thread

The cam is pretty serious. 223/218 duration, and a 540/543 lift on a 114 lobe sep. Comparable to zzp stage 4. The 150# might be a little overkill, but I'll be running eat least the comp 130s. I want to be making high end power with that cam, so I don't want to float out til after 6 grand.

Hey viper, thanks a lot. I thought 150s sounded like the way to go. BTW, your setup was what got me interested in this project in the first place. Love the ride.

Quick update - block heads and intakes are still in the machine shop. Custom bowl porting all the way around. Heads are looking excellent! Hopefully they'll be back next week and we can start putting in the stroker kit. Going with COME racing. Right now just painting valve covers etc, will post pics when done.

PS anyone have anything better for painting underhood bits beside the cheap plasticoat high temp stuff?
