Ok I have been searching for awhile and cant find anything.

I have a tial 38mm wastegate. How do you hook it up? I have a flange to mount it to, but what lines go to what?? details please....thank you

    Re: wastegate question

the one on the side gets tied on to all your other boost sources, IE BOV, turbo, etc.

the one on top is for your boost controller.

Wow, this project is beginning to suck. Do I NEED a boost controller?? Is there a way to get around it?

Ok I have a diagram that shows the top hooking into the regulator and the bottom hooking into a T shared with a line from the regulator and turbo, can this not be done?

          Re: wastegate question

don't worry about a boost controller. just run a vacuum line from the compressor housing to the wastegate. it will work fine. you may even prefer it to a boost controller.

however, because a wastegate is run off pressure signal, it will slowly open as boost builds, until it opens fully at your max boost setting. bleeding off boost reduces responsiveness, and power. this is boost creep.

a boost controller uses a solenoid to send the pressure signal to the wastegate at the specified max boost...eliminating boost creep. newer electronic controllers can shape the torque curve in many ways.

a $45 rjc grainger valve does the same thing, except it's purely mechanical. do a search for grainger valve.

              Re: wastegate question

right now its a time factor and money.

I have had my car in a garage for 6 weeks now working 2 hours every nite on it. All I got now is to rout the pipes and install the FMU, wastegate and blow off valve that I may buy from you.

The guy wants it out of his house.

                Re: wastegate question

Do I just run ONE vacuum line, from wastegate to compressor? Dont I have to run one to the fuel pressure regulator too?

                  Re: wastegate question

all your boost lines needed to be tied in to each other some how.

wastegate, turbo, bov, fpr, and upper mani.

                    Re: wastegate question

I understand they all need to be tied together, but to your knowledge, does the wastegate need to be tied into the fuel rpessure regulator?

                      Re: wastegate question

like i said everything must be tied in together all boost ref. points, so yes.

                        Re: wastegate question

you can make do without lots of things...and at them at a later time when funds allow. bov, boost controllers, i/c are all good things, but i'm sure you'd rather save a lot of money in the present, and have a working car!

i didn't realise until a couple of weeks ago that gn guys don't run bov! they get the 'buick turbo snort'. they can run 100k+ miles before rebuilding turbos (or more likely upgrading).

if you have an auto tranny, you want the turbo to spool fully before stall speed. if lag is a problem, definitely get a boost controller. the flip side is the massive torque you'll make will break tires loose, break trannies, etc. gn guys run gt6131 (big turbo) with stock torque converters and they spool fine. if you have a manual tranny, there's no worries.

some gn guys run 93 octane, razor's progressive alky injection, and 20 psi boost. 'hot air' gns don't run i/c. their major problem is restrictive intake, not lack of i/c.

Are you sure your turbo isn't internally gated? Also, I'd rather have boost guages/ A/F guages just to be safe if I were you. It's better to have a car that runs for 10 years and have to wait 2 or 3 weeks, than to have a car that runs for 10 days that is finished without the proper precautions. Just my .02
