  • Am I missing something? TT Kit.

I was browsing around ebay a while back when I ran across a TT kit. Says that it includes just about everything. Here's what it says it includes:
    Including following item:

-TWIN TURBO INTERCOOLER (22X3X11" CORE SIZE.30" OVERALL LENGTH. 2.5" INLET OUTLET)

    -t3/t4 internal wastegate turboX 2

    -blow off valve X2

-oil line, oil return lines & fittingsX 2

-universal 2.5" aluminum intercooler piping with silicone

I regularly hear about $5k TT kits. These typically cost around (according to the seller) $900-1100. Here's the link.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/84-93...spagenameZWDVW

It does state this: "CUSTOMER IS REQUIRE TO CUSTOMIZE A TURBO MANIFOLD AND DOWN PIPE FOR THIS SET UP, THIS IS A SET WITH ALMOST EVERYTHING U NEED TO MAKE YOUR CAR TURBO"

So someone please tell me, am I missing something?

yea that is a universal kit that comes with a few pipes and such and then you have to custom make it to work with your car. So modifying the pipes, adding parts and other stuff is involved. Not a bolt on kit by any means.

Also they usually sell a crappy turbo with those kits and not a nice one that will be more reliable

i would be very careful about the turbo's they include. it says nothing about the trim of the turbo or brand. also like said before it is a universal kit only. the piping will only get you so far.

Yeah, there is a reason there are only a couple TT v6 F-body's around, and they were fairly recent.

I may just add to that list - unless I can find a single that is going to get me spooling when I want.

As long as you get everything set up right. You shouldn't have a problem spooling single or twin.

I know I had no problem spooling one, but the to4e maxed out at around 400hp on the 3.1 and was spooling fairly early. I'm going to a 3.4 and using heads from a 2004 3500, ported/polished, LS6 springs, nice large runners/plenum, splayed valves, and I will be seeing just under .5" lift. The restrictive iron heads I had before worked good with the turbo, but I don't know how good it will work on the new motor (besides the fact that it is an ebay unit).

I could give you measurements for the new motor if you wouldn't mind helping me select a turbo(s). I also haven't started the headers yet, so I would appreciate any input. I know the 60* motor is a slightly different beast, but principals are the same.

I will be getting to you soon. I have just finished cc'ing the stock heads and runners, but the plenum gave me a hard time and will be getting that number as well. Once I get the porting done, re-cc the heads and runners, I will be calling for a cam.

Those turbos are junk. Save the money and get some nice ones that way you only hafto do it once, and its done right.

I used one with good results. They are fine for the shadetree mechanic without a lot of money.

No, they are not real Garretts, but the internals ire interchangable. If you got the cash, I agree, buy the good one first. I'm going with something new this time.

You had TT on your 3.1 firebird right?

What #'s were you putting down?

Single t3/t4. Never got to a dyno or the track before I was playing around with it, hit the rev limiter, and spun a bearing. After a minor rebuild, I did it again, but this time it sounded like a cannon and crushed the bearing like a penny on the train tracks I can tell you it was faster than any v8 3rd gen I've been in, and have been in lots since my first ride in one in 1987 (it was a brand new IROC at the time with a 350TPI), even with no posi.

I haven't decided if I'm going to use twins or a single on the new motor, just concentrating on getting the build done first (lots of time and money).

Here are some pics of the old setup that I sold (just kept the turbo)...

I'm looking to get over 250hp N/A at 11.5:1 compression, then going to change to a turbo cam and dished pistons (to get about 8.6-8.9:1), and re-apply the turbo(s).
