  • 3.4 Turbo idea! will it work?

Ok so i was thinking about different turbo design for my 93 3.4l. Tell me what you think.

So I was thinking a remote mount turbo design then thought no. And I want to do a turbo design right now just for some small gains im not looking to make crazy boost or anything.

SO do you think this will work? First cut off the exhaust right after the stock y pipe and turn the exhaust back to the front of the car kinda like the under the k member kits made and bring it up in front of the radiator and mount it just like the under the k member kits so this way i retain all the stock manifolds and y pipe o2's. will this work and if not why. and if no what can i do to make this work?

BTW im looking at running 6-8 psi is this ok with stock manifolds?

sure it would work, but its gonna take a lot of custom exhaust work.

Yeah thats what i thought... but I think it would be easyer then fabing up headers. what should this setup be able to run power wise with 8 psi and an intercooler mounted up front on a 3.4l?

Any input or ideas would be great.

i think you would be better off fabing up some headers, by using the factory manifold and bring the exhaust back to the front your pretty much going to need to have a 180* elbow to bring it back and thats not going to help flow much. i know you dont want to go crazy with boost but i would still be concerned about the bottle neck that turn is going to be in the sytem. also if im correct the 3.4 only has one O2 sensor and its before the cat, keeping the O2 should be the least of your worries, to really make this system work your going to have to run a megasquirt and with that i beleive you can just tune the sensor out so the sensor shouldnt be an issue. its probably going to be easier and more practical for you to build a more standard design. boost is a sickness once you get it you are going to want more, and if you go with your original design your going to be limited as with a more standard design it gives you some room to play.

with 8 psi or less megasquirt is going to be overkill

also you'll be investing a lot of money in a project like this for only like 7-8 psi

thanks i was also thinking about not using the sock y pipe and turning both the pipes coming off of the manifolds turning them to the front and then making a new y pipe just before or under the k member.

And i agree that i will be limited if i didnt make my own headers but thats ok for now.

megasquirt... where is the best place to get it and does anyone know a good link that explains it or can someone explain how it works and what is all needed for it?

so megasquirt might not even be needed?

megasquirt is used to tune cars as an indpendant fuel management system, if you keep your psi low enough it will nto be needed, and I would not advise running two pipes up front, let it hit the Y pipe, then run one pipe back.

alright thanks will i need anything to tune it or is it ok on the stock tune.... would the stock fuel injectors work or do i need to bump them up?

I have a brand new fuel pump. as well as the car has new spark plugs and it was just seafoamed

But i would prob need to go one or two steps colder on the spark plugs and run 91 octane

up the octane, maybe only start with 6-7 psi, I would also get a wideband, so you can make sure you arent leaning out your fuel system.

and yea, you will have to go with slight colder plug, tr-6's or something.

is a wideband a air fuel ratio gauge?
