Re: 99 Camaro Turbo Setup... HP Tuners help needed!!!!

Well heres the breakdown of what I will need to have a shop do...

Refab all piping necessary to allow turbo to sit up higher, actually the way you have urs is exactly how I want mine.

    It would include possibly:
Refab the under Kmember pipe coming off Ypipe up to turbo.
Refab small pipe used for wastegate.
Refab pipe coming off compressor going to catback.

If you want to take a look that would be sweet. I actually work in Peoria IL but I drive through ur area all the time going back home to Detroit. I can send pics if you want
SLP CAI, RK Sport headers, P&Ped heads and intake, GT2 cam, Upgraded valvetrain, Z28 rear axle with 4.10s Tx Spd tune, Z06 rims, 2.5\" exhaust to flowmaster, 160* thermo, B&M ripper, upgraded ignition, rockford fosgate 12\" with sony xplode amp and HU.

wow...very interesting setup. I have yet to see something like that

shoot Andrew (turbo V6 Camaro) A message...he will give you the whole write up on the tune. You can send me his tune file, and I could take a look at it if you'd like. I tuned my 98 turbo camaro by myself...with a little help from others just to make me understand some things here and there...overall, i learned the program pretty well....as far as Fuel tuning goes...I could send you what my PE vs RPM table looks like so start off there. Once you do that, I never touched that table again. I do all my Fuel tuning by the MAF chart...its much much easier this way.

First thing you gotta do, is go to Engine Diagnostics and set the MAF fail frequency to 20000mghz.

Re: 99 Camaro Turbo Setup... HP Tuners help needed!!!!

Fury.... Id' be glad to take a look at it with pic's or in person.

If your interested in me fabing it up that's no problem

KidCamaro... I'll try and attatch the latest file for you to look at. (If it won't attach could you e-mail me and I'll send it over?) UR50SLO@aol.com Says it won't attach it.. :(

I've got the WOT fuel richer right now... I'd like to work on areas leading up to WOT.
For example... you don't have to be over (40%) throttle to have over 5psi boost.... I'd like to see it richer in those areas instead of trying to hover at 14.7-1 and then go lean.
Is that going to be logging and seeing where it is on the MAF Hz? and brining those value's up?

        I'm guessing that's where it's at.

        Learning alot every day....
        Thanks!
        Scott~

Re: 99 Camaro Turbo Setup... HP Tuners help needed!!!!

Well... I was sitting in the parking lot yesterday afternoon break torquing the Camaro up and having it sputter about the same boost level... 8psi...
Then the thought hit me like a 2x4 on the forehead.......:twak:

The owner had installed the stock spark plugs back in it... It was blowing out the spark for sure....
Sure enough.. pulled the plugs and they were at .65 Doh....

Put in a set of fresh plugs like I use in the GN1 heads and it was game on!!!!

Spent a couple hours tuning and learned alot more with HPT... We ended up at 17psi with it spiking at 2deg knock retard in a place or two.. We are running 93oct. stock engine/trans/rear...
There's very little lag if any... Spools very fast pulls like a bear... So far so good.. No leaks.. had a VERY good day with the car...
There's some more tweaking to do but MAN it came a LONG way today.

            Thought I'd share...

how much timing are your at 17psi?

ther eare a few way to tune use the maf is the best way.....

if you max the maf out its VERY bad (cut injecotrs to 50% goes really lean lol)

please make sure you tune for that !!!

I think I read a post on here or HPT about the injector cut... We are in the 1100Hz zone.. close to having it maxed out. We did richen up from 8500up on the maf Hz. Along with going richer in the PE table

The timing is in the single numbers where boost is higest. I'd like to set it up for 14-15psi at the most on pump gas right now... Since the guy's going to be giving to his son who is a Jr. in high school..... Hope he is responsible... I know I wouldn' be ;)
                  Thanks for the input!

                    I don't understand something.

You say this is a 99, but it has a 96-98 upper intake and TB? What year is the PCM 98 or 99? 98 was the last year for a cable TB, 99+ all are electronic. Therefore, the PCM programming is vastly different.

Re: 99 Camaro Turbo Setup... HP Tuners help needed!!!!

I looked at the build date in the door... It was a late 98... I assumed it would be considered a 99. I just looked at the way the HPT pulled up the VIN and it's a 98... Your right.. 3CKDEA7317 - GM Firebird/Camaro (V6) 1998 - Stock98camaro38L
It's a regular Throttle body.. Not electronic.
I didn't know the breaking year where they went to the electronic TB.
                      Thanks for the info!

I really like the custom TB elbow you made.

Would you list the parts? End plate thickness, tube diameter and wall thickness. I assume the (2) small "rods" are solid rod for support. Steel or AL? All welded?

thats playing with fire...... look at the tuning area on my site on how to tune for the MAF maxing (setting the fail and turning off the code)

you can use PE add vs rpm to add fuel OR use maf table and pe, maf and pe is much better and in you case you could probly 0 the add vs rpm PE table and just use a WB O2 and the maff error correction in HP tuners to dial in the car...

if you need more info this let me know and i'll send you a config file for the scan thats set up and ready to go :)

The end plates a 1/8 plate steel... The large middle pipe is 2 1/2 mild steel. The smaller tubes are: (larger) for IAC air flow (very small) we thought was for the PCV system.. we may have to eliminate that.. We just extended all the factory stuff so it all worked like factory. We may be getting boost blown down that very small tube and into the crankcase. We are going to test that this week. If we find that it's blowing into the crankcase we'll just weld one end of that smaller tube up.
If guys are interested in the Throttle body re-locator I can make some of them. It is kind of nice to have it away from the radiator and pointed to where you've got some streight pipe in front of the MAF.

TurboV6: We've got the code turned off... Not sure if I've disabled the MAF Failsafe.. if it go's over the max Hz. I've read like we talked about the Injector DC getting cut.. but we've not had it do that yet. The stock O2's are on each side of the manifolds and we run a Wideband in the downpipe about 6" down. AFR's are mid 11's at WOT with no more than 2deg of knock retard.
I"m prity impressed with the engine for being a stock unit. I'm usto working with GN's. It acts real similar... I like my stuff to be very quiet but the Flowmaster system they picked sounds good.

It's snowing now so tuning is not going to happen till it clears up again.

I had a guy on HPT send me a configure file for tuning and histograms. I didn't lock in my WB to it... but it's setup for it.
If you'd like to see my Tune so far shoot me a e-mail and I'd love to have you look it over. UR50SLO@aol.com Thanks!
