  • turbocharger

Well I finally have some money to put together my turbocharger setup and I'm going to start with the turbo. Does anyone know what size turbo I should go with? My mod are as follows:
    3.8L engine
    1:8 rocker arms
    cat back exhaust
    MSD DIS spark box
    MSD coil and plug wires
    hypertech tuner
    fabbed 3in. cold air intake
I need to get this before I can start figuring out the manifold. Now I'm looking only for a dependable daily driver with a kick, nothing too outragous. Any help will be appreciated.

turbo: get one off a buick.

dd: get a grand prix. Will be fun to drive and very comfy

The s/c is for a L67 and won't fit on my engine.

        Re: turbocharger

This is a bit off topic but what other supporting mods are you gonna do besides the necessary bov and wastegate?

How much boost do you want to run?

btw I have a 1:7 or maybe its a 1:9 FMU that I'm not using.

I'm going to stick with an internal wastegate and an intercooler. I think that's about all the mods I plan on using, unless you can think of others. I was going to stay in the area of 7-8 psi.

                Re: turbocharger

Turbonetics 62-1 (t3/t4, .63 a/r) is becoming more popular and is capable of making very good power on a stock motor, but you will need a wastegate for it. A few dudes on FTV6 have them and like them.

The Master Power T70 is a decent unit for the money as well, but again you will need a wastegate. Also know that the MP T70 is a tad too big for stock heads/cam and stall. It takes quite awhile to build boost. I know this because I have one, I use nitrous to make up for boost lag and my stall helps quite a bit as well.

I would rather have an external wastegate, but maybe thats just me.

If you do decide on an interanlly gated unit, I'd go with Garrett. They are high quality and much less likely to 'boost creep' (over boost).

BTW, what are you going to do with the fuel system and tuning?

I plan to take my car and have it properly tuned. I'll probably upgrade to a larger pump. The stock injectors I'll probably leave alone for now.

Walbro 255 is an absolute must.

Are you running an FMU? If not, then you'll run WAY lean and pop a piston with any amount of boost on stock injectors.

If you are having it tuned, then $50 for L67 injectors is a GREAT investment instead of an FMU. Check out the for sale section on here, FTV6 and clubgp.com. They are for sale on those sites all the time.

Why don't you need a BOV if your car is an automatic?

Auto or manual...doesnt matter, you still need a BOV or the turbo will surge and end up destroying itself from excess pressure.

You're just picking on a noobie right?

                              Anyways, as for the OP

Well since my turbo is dead and I don't want to deal with having it rebuilt and machined you might be interested. It's a turbonetics t3/t4 .63 a/r I'm not gonna lie and say it's in working condition but apparently it can be with some repairs. The shaft I guess is bent and some fins on the turbine side are bent. It's supposedly out dated so if you were to fix it you would have to have the housings machined so new components could be installed. It would work for you then. But that choice is up to you. If you're up to it gimme an offer. I can find out more about repair prices if you're even considering. And maybe I could get you a good deal on a new turbo from where I'm getting a new one.
