  • Trying to put Super Charger on 3800 V6

I have a 96 Camaro with a 3800 V6 and the 4l60E trans, the motor and trans have about 50k on them they are from an 01 Firebird. We swapped the intake, exhaust manifolds and oil pan back to 96 parts. I was wondering what was required to swap in the supercharger, Id like to build this thing with stock used parts to try and save a few bucks. I heard you need to switch the heads because the injectors are in the heads in the supercharged cars as opposed to the ones in the intake like mine. Is there a different supercharger that would bolt to my existing heads, and would I be able to do this swap in steps the car is my daily driver so I don't want to put it out of service for too long. I'm thinking like maybe run the supercharger at a low psi until I finish the swap like 3-4 psi, then once I re-tune the comp, install the bigger injectors, and put a better flowing exhaust with headers try to pump it up to like 9 or 10. Is that possible? What I am looking for is a power gain of maybe 20-50 hp but I don't want it to be a gas guzzler or have the motor blow at 75 or 80k, so I don't mind sacrificing a little Hp for MPG, reliability, and longevity (otherwise Ill just keep driving my big block T/A). Any advise or direction on this swap would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Anthony

are you trying to go to l67? or stay with your l36? that'll determine if you need to swap the head. I think you want powerdyne but it sounds kind of like your building for
    an m90?
    good luck!

20-50 is NOT worth all the money and custom fabrication that you would need to do.

Yeah but where do you find them nowdays? I've been searching for one at a decent price for months now.

Re: Trying to put Super Charger on 3800 V6

Fabrication doesnt bother me, Ive worked on cars since I was 14, and what I dont know I can usually call someone to help me do it. Plus spending like 2 or 3 grand on a supercharger kit is nuts when rebuilt and good ones are on ebay for under $200 and I found 38k cylinder heads for 185 each at the junk yard with fuel injectors and sensors still intact. So it still seems cheap and reasonable. So far though no one has been able to answer my ? Is there a factory supercharger that fits without swaping the heads, can I do it in steps like I wanted and what concerns should I have before I get started.

no there is not a factory one that fits without swapping heads. You are in for more than you know if you are going to try and fit the grand prix blower onto your engine...

it is not cheap. Get a used powerdyne if your heart is set on sc

                  Correct.
We have our injectors in our LIM.
The GTP's is in their heads.

You will need the blower, and then GTP's LIM and heads.
And then I think there is the fact of re-routing all of the throttle body cables, AND the coils packs.

The guy on ftv6.com (threads above) needed to move his powersteering and ABS brick.

If that's all you want, then camming your car would be a much more cost-effective, time-efficient process

x3...and if you do decide to go forced induction just go powerdyne. its a hell of a lot easier to install and they are better than the M90 as far as potential power.

Well how much boost can I run on my car without changing the stock internals, and have it last atleast another 50k. I was aiming for 20-50 because I thought I couldnt run alot of boost. What are guys running with a regular bottom end. The only thing that seems really difficult from this swap is ducting the throttle body to the back of the super charger. Am I right in the rest of it seems to be swapping heads and intake and possibly moving the abs block and power steering. I was looking at what the guy did and I dont see what hit those. maybe I can find another way with out moving them.

                              OMG...search.

I am running 12 psi plus a 50 shot of nitrous, TBO98 runs 20+ psi, Kidcamaro98 ran 15 psi and I know another dude who does 17 psi (turbo cars). All these cars are STOCK motors, the L36 likes boost and handles it very well. Fuel upgrades and tuning are key.

Why would you have to remove the power steering and ABS block?????
