  • turbo opinions?

ok so i am starting to stray from the idea of a supercharger to a rear mount turbo...although from what i read many people don't like them due to lag...whatever...i dont plan on going to the track so thats not such a big deal to me... but anyways i was just wondering if a couple of turbo guys could step in and tell me what they think about a turbo like this.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T4-V-...mZ290241303435 ....seems to be on the cheap side of things to me but i guess i don't really know. that and as far as goals with the car i am not looking for anything outrageous...just a real fun street/highway car...anywhere from 6-10 pounds if i ever get around to doing this...thanks.

if your not going to the track its probably a better option, plus the fact that affordable s/c's are a bit hard to find these days...
however before you buy make sure you search google or something for "HOLY $#!@ my rear-mount turbo just got owned by a rock on the highway!!1!!!" I've never actually heard of that happening, but I have a vivid imagination.

I'm gonna say that if you do go for this project in the end you'll wish you didn't cheap out on the turbo. I have first hand experience on this. You can find a lower priced one that should be good if you go somewhere in person. I bought a rebuilt garret for under 600 bucks that's like brand new and so far it's been working great. The owner of that shop though probably wanted business from my family's company though so I lucked out.

my problem is i really don't have anywhere to go to buy a turbo in person....i live in wyoming, that pretty much says it all. haha. but anyways i am guessing from that statement that you do not approve of a turbo like that? correct? and is it just because it's not name brand or what?

Not that I know from personal experience but I've heard that they have bad oil pressure seals and usually leak. A leaky turbo is no fun. With cars unless you're getting ripped off by a dealership you can usually stick to the saying "You get what you pay for"

i would run a 60-1 or a 62-1 if i was you more money and lot better turbo and less hassel in the long run and much less lag. Those are very nice turbos, work very well on the 3800 v6.

and the biggest thing you have to worry about with the rear mounted turbo is getting the oil back to the engine quick enough. You will need a very good pump for that also..
