Reason: not for improved air flow but as an option to relocate the maf sensor further up stream from the throttle body.
a simple cover plate could be made to go over the hole in our stock maf sensor housing. rather than buy an Ls1/Ls6 maf and then have a PITA on going tuning fest it sure would be nice to have an independant maf houseing similar to the v8's that could be relocated so easily yet retain the stock 3 wire v6 maf.
i highly doubt that an actual ls1/ls6 housing could be used for this cuz that would just be way to easy but i have access to one and plan to compare the two maf housings. im not above butchering and old ls1 maf houseing by gutting it to fit the stock v6 sensor but i will allso consider fabing up a housing for the stock maf sensor as well. i might even be able to use a 3" (or so) silicone coupler with a hole cut into it for the prob end of the sensor to fit through and then bolts with steel AND rubber washers on both sides of silicone coupler AND liberal amounts of silicone based gasket sealer on the fay and fillet surfaces. I might even want to make a custom 'collar' to further help retain the sensor as this will be a presureized discharge tube.
Reason for moving maf is to allow puting a meth/water nozzle further away from the TB, allowing for better atomization with the compressed air as well as allowing use of IAT sensor for an accurate temp reading of the incoming blower air.
wow im long winded sometimes.
