  • intercooler pipe ?

i am running a powerdyne 6lbs of boost ( till winter when i do alot more modding) and i am going to run a 28x6 front mount intercooler my plan right off the bat was 2.5 inch in and out on the ic but would i notice less of a boost loss and more power if i ran 2" fron supercharger to intercooler and 2.5 fron intercooler to tb? anyone care to give their input on this situation??

    Re: intercooler pipe ?

Having the intercooler cooler on there, your going to lose PSI , most loose about 2 PSI, thats what I lost. I found out by adding the intercooler I lost 2 PSI and it heated up the head unit alot more causing internal belt failure. Basicly it puts more stress on the Powerdyne head unit, thats why not alot of people try to intercool them. I would just leave it as it is without a intercooler, you won't lose 2 PSI and over stress the head unit.

I was running a 36" X 6" X 3" the outlets were 3" so I had reducers on them and 2 1/2" of piping with some reducers for the TB. I lost a solid 2lbs of PSI and felt the headunit after a couple of trial runs, it was hot as hell and smelled like something was burning. It wasn't my driveline belt , it was the internal belt of the supercharger. I took it off after 2 weeks, and soon after that I had to replace ther internal belt because it snapped and locked up the supercharger pulley, inwhich my main belt started smoking because of the supercharger pulley not turning. This happened alot of times since I was running a 2.6" grooved pulley. The internal belt could not withstand the heat and speed of the pulley. Even after I had it vented, shimmed, kevlar belt and ceramic bearings from 928. I came to the conclusion that the PD is only good for what it was designed for 6-7 PSI with no intercooler. If you want more power and want to stick with the PD, add nitrous.
