Here's pic's of the 97 I've been working on. Been a HUGE wait for turbo problems from the vendor he purchased it through and then several parts I had to get on my own to use a external wastegate and all the pipes.
I did this on as much of a "Budjet" as possible. There was hardly anything to work with when I got the car. It had stock manifolds with a under the K member merge pipe up to the turbo. The mount from the block to the turbo was broken off and poorly welded. (So were all the pipes for that matter) Pipes hit by speed bumps or other stuff.. it was very torn up. (Thus the reason under the stock K-member turbo pipes are not good for street drivers.) With a TUbular K it could be possible and have good clearance. Or if your willing to cut into it like I did on the 98 and put flex pipes in.
The turbo was not even hooked up to the inter cooler piping. The IC was mounted flat(Horizontal) not vertical (as it is in the pic's below) I re-used some of the pipe's from the old setup to try and save him some $ since it won't effect much in performance.
The placement of the turbo/wastegate and downpipe seem to work very well.
No pipes go under the K-member. This is a A/C Delete car. Also a 5spd.
He was told the Injectors were 43lb/hr .. they are not.. the numbers have been ground off. On HPTuners I had 25% correction at idle... (Perameter was 38lb/hr. Went down to 30.. same..... ended up at 22lb/hr to have 3% correction and be able to drive for a few test down the street with good results....
I'd like to elimintate that elbow before the MAF.. it's one of my pet-peeves but the $ isn't there.
Several things he and I need to discuss about options.. battery re-locate so I can put a 4" inlet/K&N on it and several other things. It's got some good potential!
We'll need to get at least 40-50lb/hrs in here before I can go much further with a fuel/timing tune. But it spools almost instantly like the 98 Camaro.
Hope this inspires more guys
