Re: Supercharger or turbo?
coming from someone with experience... V8 lol. and nonono groupies dont jump on me about that not being an option.. ok so ill give you more of an in depth answer. I had a Powerdyne supercharger kit that we custom made for my car (1999 firebird v6). LS1 lid, upgraded pump and injectors, tuned with hptuners, 3.73 gears... yea it should be quick right? Now i drive a bolt-ons only 1999 WS6, i absolutely could not believe the difference, my v6 felt absolutely pathetic in comparision. I thought it was cool the v6 could chirp the tires from a 30 roll (with an auto), the new car goes sideways...
IF you are bound determined to stick with the sixer, it depends on your goals really, if you just want a nice streetable car with moderate boost just to keep you ahead of the grand prixs go with a supercharger, turbos have much higher capabilities but generally will cost more and require more fabbing. In the end its up to you, I chose SC because it was something I could understand and we were able to install it with very little modifying of the car.Last edited by redfbird99; 11-26-2008, 05:39 PM.1999 Firebird W68
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/995565
-Derek

Re: Supercharger or turbo?
LS1's are a fantastic engine. No doubt.
If you want a LS1 car go buy one.
However a good turbo setup on the stock 3.8L is great. I've done two of these set ups so far. The first blue 98 Camaro went from 15.60's stock down to 12.70's at 108mph.
No engine work.. No transmission work.. They ended up putting a 3:42Posi out of a Z28 in it just because the single track 3:08 was a joke for traction.
There's nothing like a turbo car!
Less expensive insurance than a WS6...
It's a decision that you need to make for yourself.
Search around this and other boards for more information before jumping in.
Hop over to www.turbobuick.com or www.fullthrottlev6.com and several others. Might help you make a decision.

Re: Supercharger or turbo?
Yeah, turbo all the way.
In either case (turbo or SC) you'll have to fab some stuff up. With a turbo you'll have to fab up some exhaust pipes. With a SC you'll have to fab up brackets that set the SC pulley in line with your serpentine belt.
Some people around the board are making hotside piping for turbos so you might be in luck there.. Just start learning as much as you can. But remember, with a turbo the power is damn near unlimited. A supercharger can only put out so much boost.

Turbo depends on the application. It can be quiet or not. It can be very loud like Andrew's and Link's turbo.
There's no fabbing with the RKSport Powerdyne or the Mach Perf. ATI. These are the only choice you have when it comes to SC. Pathogen and Stefan fab there own ATI with twin belt. Nick fab his own Vortech.
With Turbo you can fab your own or get FFF Turbo that's already fabricated.
Both SC and Turbo will definately increase your car's whp, but for performance wise Turbo has more potential. Ease of installation and reliability, SC.
Just to let you know. There's hardly anymore or none SC on sale now for our V6. Your best bet is to fab your own Turbo.
