Tax time is coming, and I'm prepping for my next round of upgrades which is going to include Cam/Heads. My plan is to go with a turbo-charger later this year, and I have some questions about the supporting mods for the T/c that I think may be relevant when I go into the block for the Cam. Much appriciated if anyone could spare a few minutes?
This is my current setup btw, not sure if it's necessary info.
98 firebird with 103k on it.
Pacesetter headers
3" hi-flow cat
2.5" catback(I'm told this needs to go for a 3")
Alluminum driveshaft
4.10 gears w/Posi(going on in February)
MSD Blaster packs
Whisper lid & Ram air WS9 hood
Planning on using the Abbot Racing FI cam
Questions!
1. When I go into the block, should I be redoing the piston heads/rings?
2. Since I'm planning on going FI, should I be opting for the titanium parts?
3. Should I have my heads P&P locally, or is it much more advisable to go with something like Abbot's Stage 2 or 3's?
4. I was planning on using lighter valves than stock or getting them machined, is there anything I should know about T/c's and valves?
5. Fuel Injectors, I'm guessing stock is not ok for T/c, should I be changing these out when I go in, or hold off and do it later? How big does a T/c generally need?
6. The Pacesetter headers, will these work for a T/c setup or do I need to get the forward flowing fab'd up?
7. Out of curosity, is the T/c going to throw SES codes?
8. Any other T/c'ing specific stuff, like rods or rockers that's different from a normal cam job that I should be thinking about now?
I'm honestly in the begining stages of researching the T/c for the F-bodies, but it's occuring to me that I may really want to know more before I go into the block for the cam.
So Ty in advance for any help! I do have an experienced mechanic who's going to help me out with this stuff who does alot of F-bodies and T/c the 8cyl models. He just hasn't done it to a 6cyl yet so I figured I'd ask here and get the advice of those who have.
