Doesnt really matter. Its up to you and how much room you have to work with.

        Re: Intercooler

ill probably just put the filter directly on the turbo

also is there a rule of thumb on how far from the turbo to place the waste gate and bov?

and i need a wastegate, intercooler, boost gauge, wideband, pillar, oil lines and the flages to fit my turbo for them, anyone know where i can get them?

you guys are making me look like an idiot, trust me i know most of the information your posting, and i asked the wastegate question because i know most diesel trucks come with only a wastegate and no bov, so i was wondering if i could do the same thing but no wastegate, but to be on the safe side ill get both

          and im running a 3" downpipe to a 3" xr-1 muffler i ordered of ls1tech last night

my turbo has flanges for the oil lines instead of the little fittings, so does anyone know where i can get the flanges with the fittings? if not ill just weld my own fittings to it

Get cocky, and the people that try to help you sometimes will give you a reality check. Don't ask for help, and then turn around and be all "yeah I know, yeah I know".

ANYWAY. Yes, you need a BOV and a wastegate. The wastegate I try to keep about a foot from the turbo. I usually put my BOV where it would be most beneficial....Just before the TB.

I'd suggest running a pipe to the turbo inlet so that way you're pulling even cooler air to begin with. The air in the engine bay can get pretty hot, especially with the turbo up there now.

alright thank you, and when you suggested running the pipe to the inlet, do you mean where i was talking about putting the air filter directly onto? you didnt specify which inlet

                  Re: Intercooler

there's only two inlets and I don't see why you'd be running an intake to the turbine side of the turbo.....

                    Re: Intercooler

ya i know i was just making sure, i saw a setup on ls1tech i really liked and i think thats what im going to use, he had his WG a few inches from the turbo on this down pipe, and then the bov was about a foot from the tb looked pretty nice

can you but the stuff to ceramic coat at auto zone or pep boys? probably not but just curious

You could get some 2000 degree heat paint , but other than that Jet Hot which is expensive I think depending on how many pipes like $500.

VHT makes a Hi-temp paint but you have to bake it.

                            Re: Intercooler

Ok just got back from vacation, as for the diesel, the reason they do not use a "bov" is b/c they do not have the throttle plate that gas engines have (just from what I have been told).

A good ceap bov is the ngr performance one.

Tial wg is probably the best one for the money

You can wrap the exaust piping in header wrap and this will help greatly

Tuning is a must, along with upgrading the fuel pump. I noticed you said you had injectors, but I didn't see the fuel pump, so I hope you plan to upgrade this.

WG and a bov are completely different and yes you do need both

again, you will need to save money up for a tranny if you still plan on using a t5

I just picked up a Tial 50mm BOV version 2 10 PSI spring for $235 shipped should go well with my setup, but their are BOV's that sell for $35-75 but I don't know how well they are made. I had a free BOV. that came with my 3" ALM pipping that is purple. Looks to be good but I didn't want to trust it since it was the $35 BOV. style, it mounts like a Greddy style BOV. If you have a M5 it won't hold power past 300 wrhp, My powerdyne took out my 3rd gear when I had a M5 with a Spec 3+ clutch. I was making around 300 wrhp and 330 TQ at 10 PSI , the clutch held but when I shifted into 3rd one night getting on it, it shattered , one of the worst sounds I have heard from my car. The shifter was stuck for a few seconds then I got it into N and then 4th and the rattleing was terrible. Now I have a little bit of a beefed up A4 and hope it will hold my turbo at 10-12 PSI for awhile.

VHT's hightemp stuff, is kinda garbage, it runs way too easy, I'm not sure if the duplicolor hightemp is just a different version, but that stuff works very well, its on my y-pipe and crossover, still looks good a month later. and I didn't bake it.
