  • Just a thought about wideband

I have this question about a wideband in the forced induction section due to it's content in relation to FI components. Anyways..

Maybe someone can clear this up for me, but a thought occurred to me about the accuracy of my wideband vs location.

I have mine mounted into my downpipe about 25ish inches past the turbo. Let's say I'm reaching max boost that my current setup/wastegate allots and it opens as it should. Wouldn't or, couldn't that potentially throw off an accurate reading the wideband might report?

So, with that said.. Do I even have my wideband installed in the correct place? It would make better sense to me to have it in my "Y" pipe before the wastegate to get the best reading.

The only reason I could think that this might not be normal practice is due to a temperature issue. The stock o2 sensors seem to hold up fine in the headers though. But.. they are a different class of sensor.

I'm doing a bit of exhaust work this week or weekend so while I'm down there, I'll relocate it if I've installed this in the wrong place, otherwise.. I'll leave it be.

Someone clear this up for me. Please!

I was told to have it in the downpipe about 12 inches and the downpipe I bought had the O2 bung already setup for the sensor, so I guess it should be in the downpipe. The exhaust getting blown out the wastegate is going to be the same mixture coming out the downpipe just less of it. Unless there a fuel gremlin splitting up your gas deposits.LOL My under the K turbo kit is coming along well so another month or 2, I'll be boosting with ya.

F yeah, this is too much fun. I think I'll just relocate it a bit closer to the turbo when I redo these nasty pipes.

before turbo = to hot and to much pressure, will read wrong and not last very long

put it at least 12 inches after the turbo i have mine about 18-24 lol

Mine is pretty far downstream past the turbo, and after I put the muffler on it, it really settled down a lot.

Yeah, mine is like 12", the length from the turbo. How loud is a open downpipe and will the A/F be off ,because I will have to run it about 10 miles to the exhaust shop. I don't want to have my A/F readings off by alot and blow something up. I might have him fab up some of it when I go down this week , then I can weld some off it so it is closer to the 3" exhaust. Unless it isn't too bad to run a open down pipe? This oval tubing to 3" round can get confusing.LOL

Re: Just a thought about wideband

Honestly, it's pretty loud in the cabin but I got a ton of compliments from other people who heard it. I never got the chance to hear it outside the car. My gf didn't want me to put a muffler on it. You'll definitely be ok driving to a shop. I DD it for a few months and by tons of cops and I was never pulled over. I brought it to belltire for a flat and all the mechanics there apparently liked it a lot.

The A/F won't be off a lot, it will jump around quite a bit during idle, but when you actually get goin it calms down. It is however pretty accurate at WOT. If you just take it easy on her, you'll have no problems. You'll see.

Thanks Blizz, I didn't know how it worked, but I just want to focus on the hot pipe first then figure out where to run the oval piping to my exisiting 3" exhaust and might also put the Dynomax muffler before the axle. How does it sound with a open downpipe is it loud and raspy? Also how is your Dynomax turbo muffler sounding? Any rasp? Iwouldn't think it would rasp since with a full exhaust it doesn't rasp on mine shifting at 6000 rpms.
