Shortening A/C hose in engine bay

So I called around today with different shops , most wouldn't touch it because of liabilty issues even though I told them it is just a A/C line not a fuel line , I'm not going to blow up if it started leaking.LOL Found one place that would look at it, instead of me using a used hose , I decided to buy a new one since the one on my car is over 13 years old with 168,000 miles on it. So tomorrow or Monday since the shop might be closed I forgot to ask. I will find out if they will do it and have basicly no A/C hose 2 feet in the engine bay. I just want 2 90 degree bends so it goes straight up and down from the canister. It will so badass if they can do it and it works, so far $85 for new assembly and will see how much for the shorting it and doing some new PSI clamps on the lines. But they said they can't get to close to the original ones , thats where they might run into problems but even if it goes towards the radiator instead of the engine bay, it will be worth it. For us turbo guys and you powerdyne guys since you have to wrap that hose around the Powerdyne to get it to fit in the engine bay. Why didn't anyone think of this before? I'm 25% brain dead on the right side of my brain and I thought of it first. LOL if they can do it I will post some pics and the details on it.

great idea.


i had a similur idea with the drive belt.

im now using a 60 inch 1984 4cyl ford ranger belt on my camaro. =D


cause i deleted the ac and the idler pulley

If it didn't get 115-120 degrees here in the summer , I would of taken it out along time ago. Sounds like you just need a electric water pump and you could shorten it even more.

There supposed to take a look at it for me and see what they can do. It is a A/C company. So well see. I took me about 15-20 calls to different places, most just said no and a few said they could but they wouldn't do to liabilty, so I finally found one that would look at it.

Went up and showed the guy what I want done, he said he can send it to his buddy and he could do it, said for me to mark what needs to be done and make a drawing of it ,so he has a better idea. I'm going to take a couple of pictures of it, how it is installed normally and mark on the hose then draw a diagram of how the new one should go. I'm going to drop it off Monday. I'll let you know how it comes out. This should be a good for guys wanting to keep their A/C's giving them so extra room with a supercharger and turbo.

The liability is due to the freon pressure. If it fails the hose will be whipping around under the hood.

I understood the liability, so I didn't sweat them about it, just said thanks for your time. I hope this guy can do it, I started to mark how it needs to go, the bottom needs a 90 degree up and the top needs to be turned alittle or bent straight and a 90 degree down then either a hard line or hose can be fitted. This would make it where it is up close about 2"-4" out. Better than almost 2 ft.LOL I'm just going to take the pics and make a diagram number each section and write what needs to be done. I hope he can figure it out from there, it will make it so much easier and I won't have to try and bend the line back and also worry about the turbo heat on it.

I got everthing measured out took some pics and will going down tomorrow, wish me luck. This could help alot of us FI guys who would be interested. I'll keep you guys updated.

I dropped the Hose off today and should be done tomorrow, they are cuttting the bottom metal peice off and redoing it so it makes a straight up bend. Should be interesting. I'll post a pic of it when it is done and hope to get it on this weekend.

FYI napa can do those crimps you may be able to make your own just have to find the ends

Don't yet on how much? I took it to Napa and they sent it out to a place in PHX that is doing the work. I know they have to rework the bottom hose end, cut and weld it so it comes up rather than the 90 at the bottom going straight out just for a smoother transition for the hose, but other than that will see how it comes out. I gave them pictures of the engine bay, measurements and my own drawn up picture of how it should go and with how many inches the lines should be. But there is always some room by moving the canister about a inch or 2 forward. Napa didn't want to do it because of the liability, so the one guy at the counter new the place in PHX and called him for me and he said he would do it. He said it wouldn't be too much for doing it.
