  • Turbo Project

I've finally decided to take action on my dreams of one day owning a turbo v6 f-body. So far I've got a Master Power T70, some silicon couples and clamps, and all the mandrel bends I'll need for some nice forward flowing headers.
I have a small MIG welder which I plan on using to tack the pipes together, and access to an industrial sized TIG welder. I'm not an experienced welder, but I've been learning to TIG weld for about a month now with the help of professional. He'll probably help with some welding on the headers if I can't manage to do it on my own.
I have a couple of questions, though. First of all, where can I get some 1/2" thick exhaust flanges for the 3800? All the pipes I bought are 16 gauge mild steel, should the flanges be mild steel as well? Also, are 1 3/4" primaries too big? It seems like some people are using 1 1/2" to maintain exhaust gas velocity, but I've already got the 1 3/4" pipes. How about the merge pipe? I bought 2 1/2" pipes for the merge pipe but again feel that this might be too big. What are the rest of you turbo guys running as far as pipe diameters?
Oh yeah, here's some pics of some parts so far. Still waiting on the 2 1/2" v-bands.

    Can't wait to start fabrication!

I think I have 3/8" flanges with 1.5" primaries I paid $90 for and not goign to use them. Also a GTP set of mani's 3 of them with alot of pipes, 2 "flex pipes. I had a for sale add, I will up date my add in the for sale section. PM me if interested , I'm going under the K for less heat in the engine bay since I'm in AZ. Good luck on your project.

X2. Update.. Also my RKSport headers came with 1 3/4" primaries so I think you'll be O.K with them.

              Not really...
Everything is physically installed, I put a battery in it and tried starting it and nothing happened, not even a click. My license was suspended for the last year so there wasn't a whole lot of motivation to get it running. I'm thinking about getting a 98 harness for the 97 engine, if that would even work. I found a place that sells them for a little over $300 so I might just do that instead of splicing wires to make this one work. I rebuilt the rear end with 3.42's and zexel-torsen posi in the mean time.
Oh and I just got my license back yesterday, so I feel like working on it now haha. Kinda seems like I bit off more than I can chew, but I'll get it done.

keep me updated, can't wait to see you have it running. If those 3 wires i think it was are not hooked up you wont get anything. The purple is the starter. do a little research on the vats too, not sure if that will affect u.
