Re: quick Q's about a turbo setup

Build your own , alot cheaper. Even with all my extra additions my total is still under $4000 thats with a GT35R turbo and Tial 38mm wastegate/ Tial 50mm BOV, big intercooler, all ALM. pipping, Aeroforce scan gauge W/ EGT kit, trunk mount methanol injection, boost controller, oval tubing, all accessories and big radiator. Just have to shop around and figure how you want to do the turbo and how much HP you want from it. I thought I wanted to do FFH's but after thinking about the heat and living in AZ , the best thing for me to do was under the K with oval tubing which cuts down the height of it 3/4". So the best thing to do is look at other setups and see what would work best for you.

thanks ssms! i was thinkin about doin FFH's cause i don't really understand how to do i under the k setup, i know i need to notch the k member or get a tubular k member but thats about as much as i know. i would like to keep the turbo out of the engine bay cause i live in FL and i can get hot down here somtimes. do you have any pic of your setup showing how to do the under the k member or know where i can find some?

Re: quick Q's about a turbo setup

Heres some pics of Tefeul Huydens turbo setup with a GT40R with regular piping and notched K member. Stock motor 130lb springs double roller , methanol injection 18 PSI 456WRHP and 500 TQ , he also lives in CO at 5200ft. altitude so his #'s would be alot more than at sea level or mine at 1200 ft. I know that he needs 3-5 more PSI out of the turbo because of the altitude. He revs up to 6500 RPMS so thats why the bigger turbo. Mine, I will be shifting at 5900-6000 RPMS so thats why I have the GT35R with a .63 A/R , should be good for up to 500 WRHP and max 18 PSI. After that i would have to swap the exhuast side to a .82 to spin up to 600 WRHP. I'm running a Tub. K and the oval tubes and raised my car back to stock height with QA-1 adj. shocks springs. Click on my cardomain for my pics. Also a bigger ALM. radiator with manual fan switches and 160 thermo will keep your car alot cooler, my 3 core 2" thick alm. radiator cools my car 30-40 degrees cooler plus running like 80% water 20% coolant, if I have the high fan switch on only reaches 170 degrees max at 110+ temps. Good luck with your setup. I have been doing mine for almost a year now getting everything setup so I won't have problems with mine in the AZ heat.

Re: quick Q's about a turbo setup

That Tub K and lower A rms are really a space saver, and about 50-60LBs light than the stock ones and with the QA-1's up front 75LBS lighter. Also a SS fiberglass hood is about 20-25lBs light and I dilled holes in mine to let air flow in and cool the engine some too, at idle the heat just come through the holes also. I found mine for $200 local on craigs list. Just have to look for the deals out there.. I think total with taking things out I made the front with the Prostars for the track 160LBs to 180lbs lighter and the turbo kit will be about 50-60LBS. So its not that bad. Then about another 200LBS+ from the interior and other lighter parts. I should be about alittle over 2800lBS total.

I don't know if its really there fault, they are probly gettin overloaded with e-mails about the kit so i won't hold it against them too much. plus i am gonna go the custom route that way i know it will fit right from the get go instead of having a pre made kit that i might have to mess with anyways

yea i know im not trying making a big deal about it ;) i did get ripped off tho by Full Throttle Performance llc (fttp.net) i ordered a strut tower bar, a few weeks later they said they didnt have it, and it took them almost half a year for me to get my money back....

Re: quick Q's about a turbo setup

ouch..sounds like a great company, lol. ok i was looking at garret turbos last night and got lost, they have i think 7 diffrent gt35xxr models. I compared them and the only diff i found was the A/R of the turbine. What is a good way to figure out which unit i need. i am lookin for at least 400rwhp from this build, i am replacing alot of engine internals with stronger parts, any suggestions?

Re: quick Q's about a turbo setup

You just have to pick the A/R and if you want a flange type or like a internal wastegate with down pipe. My GT3582R is a .63 A/R GT wheel with 3" flanged downpipe, polished housing and has oil lines and water lines. If you want a turbo without water lines you could find one without, but the water going through the turbo esp. in hot places will not let the oil to start coking inside the turbo, and you don't need a turbo timer either. My turbo retail would be around $1600-$1800 but going through a dealer I paid $1300 for it even for the machining the 3" flanged downpipe and for the polished unit. For internals stronger valve springs, pushrods, wideband , and Hptuners to program it and to monitor everything.

Ok i'll def go with a unit with the water and oil line, just to make sure everything stays nice and cool for me. i am gonna have to get the unit straight from Garret cause i can't seem to find a dealer here in FL. I'll also have to find somewhere to do the flanged downpipe for me also. I don't know if it makes a diff what company makes the wideband, as for springs and push rods i'll look around and see what everyone seems to like running with there setup, i also might fork out the money for stronger connecting rods and pistins, that is if thats not goin alil over board!

As long as you watch your A/F and KR you pistons and rods should be fine. Just the valve spings is a big deal because you might get valve float at a certain point. My Comp 105's should be good for 10-12 PSI. I have some Comp 130's, Comp .105 puushrods and a double roller timing chain to go in if they can't handle it, along with 65LB injectors if my 36LBer's max out.
