Re: where else can my oil go?

i did the oil pan and I am still leaking oil...its coming out by the bellhousing at the back of the engine...I gotta pull that plate off again and check whats going on behind there? Is there another gasket by the rear main seal? where is that back cover gasket the Shwdown mentioned?

The rear main cover can be accessed by removing the trans, clutch and flywheel. You will then see about 12 bolt heads that hold the rear main cover on. If the rear cover is leaking, it will be from either the rear crank seal o-ring, or at the base of the cover where it seals to the oil pan.

so if the guy was doing the rear main...how much more work is it to access those parts....and btw I have an auto car...so no clutch...I assume it would be the Tq converter instead?

We dont have a front and rear main seal on the 3800 oil pan. It is just one big elaborate gasket.

Yes. I just assume that since I have a manual trans so does everyone else. Pulling the trans is the majority of the workload accessing the cover.

haha, I know the rear main and oil pan are seperate...I just heard the rear main cover is by the rear main seal...I got the info I need now I think from that picture.

Re: where else can my oil go?

My rear main was leaking down to the rear end so I used Bars stop leak and it actually worked for now, I really don't like using additives, but I'm running RP 20/50 which I didn't think it would leak much.
