Have a question my car is overheating and I was wondering if we need to purge the cooling system because my car overheats really quickly I don't see any bubbles forming in the radiator or milky substance in the oil. The engine is a 3.8l and has 60k on it and it has been converted from a fwd to a rwd. Any suggestions on what can cause this.

Took that off to see if that was the problem the temperature still goes up but not as fast. I'm thinking there maybe air pockets in the cooling system.

There's a bleeder screw on the thermostat housing... make sure it's full of coolant, start the car with the heater on full blast, let it run for about 2-3 minutes and then slowly open that bleeder screw until air hisses out. Wear a glove or something bc sometimes hot steam can hiss out. Eventually coolant will come out in a steady stream. Once coolant comes out, close the bleeder screw and let it run a few more minutes, keeping an eye on the temp gauge... after a couple minutes slowly re-open the bleeder valve.

Repeat this until coolant comes out as soon as you open the bleeder. Keep an eye on the temp gauge, though, and if it ever gets too high, turn the car off, let it cool, and start over...

I took off the thermostat. And the temp still rose quickly. Will bleed system tomorrow.

Does the temp spike up and down? That would be the sign of air pockets. If its just going up and staying up you might have a bad water pump if its still getting hot with the T-stat out.

Need to check to see if the pump is bad the motor only has 60k on it so I would rule that out but I'm not sure so I'm going to check plus I did the AC delete and I'm running a shorter belt aswell.

                  You are not leaking coolant?

Still sounds to me like you have a bad water pump. We get cars that come in for overheating all the time at work. First we pull the T-stat, if it still over heats we replace the pump and every time thus far that was the case. At least we have room to work with to get the water pump off on our car. Those FWD Jap cars suck man, so much **** packed into a small place. If the coolant looks sludgy its prob because of that awful stuff they call Dexcool. That could cause it to overheat too since it is getting poor circulation. But i believe you said your coolant looks clean? Thus still leading me to believe its the water pump.

I have a turbo set up and the turbo piping is like 3inches away from the intake. I'm not sure if that has a role to play in it. Can a shorter belt cause the problem as well? When the car is off I can kind of spin the pulley from the water pump I don't think the belt is tight enough on the pulley.
